yeah, you dont see the straight mags very much since its 7.62

Even if they couldn't find any more mags they should have at least grabbed a couple of boxes of ammo & refilled the mag (stripper clips & a spoon, or even loose) they did have while under cover. Rifle > shotgun or pistol.

If I could find a .308 (straight mag) Galil in my neck of the woods I would buy it.
