Sigh.
I suck at resisting cheap scope deals. I'm looking at a (new) Simmons Aetec 4-14x-44mm side focus/parallax adjustment scope for $90. I'm thinking that it can't hurt if I put it on a 10/22 to replace a 20 year old 4x-32mm Tasco. I had an old Japan made Aetec that rocked, but I sold it a long time back. Honestly, other than having so-so repeatable adjustments,it was a really good clear scope. Throwing this out in GD because I'll get absolutely slaughtered if I put this topic in the Armory,or anywhere that $300 scopes are considered to be the bare minimum of quality.
So buy it? Or just skip it? What say you arfcom? |

http://my.opera.com/bcdc/homes/blog/China_flag.gif I'm trying to kid myself that it's made in the Phillipines before I buy it. So I'm supporting poor kids in Luzon maybe? Anyway, who the hell knows where simmons is making scopes this week. Hell,I can't even keep track of who owns them. Meade bought them along with redfield and weaver back in 2004 or so,introduced the Master series scopes, then ditched the whole brand in 2008,selling them to ATK (Alliant powder,Federal ammo,Speer ammo,CCI,etc),along with Redfield and Weaver. ATK then sold Simmons to Bushnell, and then sold Redfield to Leupold. Bushnell now also owns Tasco. So who the heck knows which companies suck now and which don't? They get handed around like hot potatoes. Makes me want to go buy a Nikon. |
