Hi, guess neighbor chopped cars when we are gone at work. Bad part is he doesn't use any catch pans when he cuts radiators and drills gas tanks, etc.
I put a short video of the dumping on YouTube. He says that I'm a dick for recording him and doesn't want to clean the pollution. Opinions appreciated. dumping anti freeze and gasoline ETA: Neighbor pushed me into unfortunate position of having no choice but to report him this past April. It sucks, and ignored lots of bullshit, but anti-freeze colored puddles would come thru fence when it would rain. The stink of dumped fuel was strong and daily (not casual spillage) I knew this was coming years ago after 100 attempts by me to be a diplomat. I kept quiet, made my own legal fund, got together a team, and put up with almost daily attempts at revenge/intimidation. It's not the same place anymore. They have not cleaned up my property, yet. I did not buy property next to a salvage yard. I was (still am) poor, working man and 16 years ago, this was a decent place that I could afford. I knew I bought city property. Property next to me is/was zoned to be a car lot. Never zoned to be salvage yard, mechanic for hire, open-air paint spray shop, home-base for a fleet of tow trucks. I never had problem with car lot. I put up with their other bullshit behavior until it crossed the line of visible migration of fluids. I set up cameras to see what was going on. I thought I would catch accidents, not deliberate dumping, push-brooming fluids to my property, pressure washing deliberate spills to my property. When they would play hillbilly bumper cars on a Saturday afternoon, I did not complain. I did build a bigger fence between us. When I had to pay to replace my burnt-off siding (from their gasoline igniting 4a.m. few years ago), I installed 3/4" foam, then Tyvek, then siding to help with noise. We knew that nobody would believe what actually goes on with this crew, so we set up cameras... lots of cameras.... he has signed admission of guilt in City of Rockford code hearing recently, has refused to negotiate or take responsibility for clean-up, so I hired remediation company and have lab results that exceed the legal clean-up requirements. Attorney said that I earned the right to share. The company knows I gave them months to do the right thing. Thank you very much! |

Usually I say to leave people the hell alone, but this will contaminate YOUR groundwater. Many of those fluids are poison and will kill pets. Ask him politely to dispose of the fluids properly and give him those reasons. If he refuses, call the police and get ready for a feud. |

If it's a neighbor who does it once or twice a year I'd just ignore it, or have a friendly chat next time I saw him. If he's running a business and it's being done on a daily basis I'd pop in, let him know that he needs to knock it off and that the fines are huge if he's caught, then I'd cut him a weeks slack. If after that he's still doing it I'd report it. But you better be prepared for the backlash cause he's going to know who did it. |
| That entire lot where the chop shop is located and the surrounding area is probably heavily contaminated. That area could be the equivalent of a superfund site. Good luck to anyone doing anything with the land. It can costmillions of dollars to remove the contaminated soil and clean everything up even on a tiny parcel of ground. |

In a heartbeat. Intentionally pouring gasoline on the ground in any quantity over a few drops is not OK. 1. In our city, we are instructed that the proper way to dispose of used antifreeze is to flush it down the drain. 2. If you are under the delusion that pouring gasoline on the ground in less-than gas tank quantities, I strongly suggest you do not watch an asphalt road being paved, herbicides and pesticides being applied. gas spillage from car accidents being hosed into the bar ditch, natural petroleum seepages such as tar pits, etc, etc, etc..... |
| One thing to remember is that if the EPA finds the the soil is contaminated in any way the original excavation must be no less than 150% of the contaminated site. I've dealt with a time or two when working with asphalt plants. It could turn into a major clusterfuck if you are within the min. 150% area..... Just saying.... |

Yeah I wouldn't say anything about a dumbass dumping stuff a couple times a year when he works on a car, but a guy running a shop out of his garage that keeps it up after he videotapes it, I'd just make a call on that guy, he's not going to stop until the feds (or state) shows up, otherwise he'll just keep doing it when he thinks the OP's not around. I watched the video, make a call or forget about it, talking to those guys is a waste of time. |

If you have well water then it could be a problem. If not you must be the most bored man in the world. Most idiotic comment I have ever seen on here. Do you actually think that shit just says right there where he dumps it? That stuff leaches into the groundwater and contaminates all kinds of stuff. It isn't just a potential problem to the immediate area like some of you seem to think. Report his ass!

That pawnshop video makes a strong case for CCW in Illinois. |
