Thanks all I remembered 556 is hotter than 223 and it has been a while but seemed to remember 762 was not as stout as 308. These will be in a dsa para fal. BTW is there a bullet wieght like the M1As I am used to for the fal?

Huh?

You can definitely fire 7.62x51 out of your DSA FAL, or any .308 rifle that I am aware of.  In that sense you can fire the exact same ammo out of your FAL that you would out of an M1A/M14

Ok, that makes more sense now (I am obviously not an expert on M1A's)

To the best of my knowledge, you can fire any weight bullet from an FAL that the rifling will stabilize (and probably even heavier if you aren't worried about what happens after it leaves the barrel) without a problem.  Hopefully if I am wrong someone will be here shortly to make a fool out of me.

5.56 and .223 are only a reference to diameter really, they can both be loaded as "hot" as you like for most purposes, same goes for .308 - 7.62  the range of options bullet weight/type, velocity is endless.

ETA keep it simple 5.56  55gr and 7.62x51 150gr.
