I just got my bill for auto insurance. It went up. Again. It is now into what I consider an extreme example of extortion, and I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. I just got an online quote from Progressive for the same kind of coverage I get from Hanover Citizens. It was literally half the price. Who do you use? Is their pricing competitive? Have you had claims? How were they handled? |

You have to shop around... the company that is good one year, may not be good the next. And the company this is good in your city/state, may be poor in another.
Contact an Independent Agent who has access to multiple markets. Contact direct companies like State Farm, too. Compare. |

A little over a year ago, I bought a house and went through State Farm for homeowners. Because of that, I got a substantial discount by sending my auto over to State Farm. |

ETA: No claims on homeowners. One claim on auto a few weeks ago, but it was just glass...which doesn't up the rates (so they say). |

Insurance rates change all the time based on how much a company had to pay out. Also, my insurance keeps going down I have Erie; switched from Progressive about 2 years ago(who is one of the priciest from my humble inquiries).

Quoted: I had only ever used Allstate until this summer when they wanted to increase my rates $30/month. (no claims or anything) I ended up going with GEICO and reduced my rate from the $90/month I had been paying to $68/month for the same coverage. Then I got married and added a car and a wife and pay $89/month now.I just got my bill for auto insurance. It went up. Again. i think its funny how the auto insurance industry is built on discrimination.....
20 years old, never had a wreck, never had a ticket? You will still pay quite a bit extra than the guy who just turned 25 with 2 totaled cars and a slew of past tickets. Gotta love age discrimination. Personally, I switched from Progressive to Geico and saved $750 bi-annually. I was pretty happy with that... |

Quoted: Try AAA if available in your area 2nd that emotion. My dad just had his cut in half by AAA. He's been in insurance for 40+ years and knows that the companies they use and the coverages are equal to the Travelers he had. If State Farm pulls out of Florida (Homeowners) I will switch everything to AAA as well. |
| I was with Progressive and switched to State Farm and saved almost half. I have also heard Allstate and Travelers are good. It really depends on your driving record. If its good you should be able to get a good price. You will also get a discount if you have your homeowners insurance with the same company as well as multi car discounts. |

| For comparing rates you might try here, they are agents for 15 A rated insurance companies and find the best rates for you. |
| I saved about $800/yr when I switched to Geico, and then another $400/yr when I switched to Progressive. I passed through 25 years of age during this time too, but Progressive was the cheapest I found. I still have Progressive and pay about $900/yr for full coverage on the TDI and liability on the XJ. |

I am an insurance agent and I write more auto policies than anything else (just the way the market is right now, I'd rather write commercial business... but I digress)
Your best bet is to decide one of two things. 1) do you want to service your policy yourself? 2) do you want to have a local agent service your policy? If you pick number one, then call Geico, Progressive Direct, Esurance, USAA, etc. If you want a local agent, then first call an independant agent who has Travelers, Progressive, Safeco, Auto Owners (at least two of the higher-end companies, otherwise you are at a bucket shop). Then, compare those rates to a "captive" agent (State Farm, All State, etc) Pick the winner and be happy. Price is not the only factor with auto insurance. How you service your policy also matters. |
