| We went to the drive in last night and saw a couple of movies. I've read online that there aren't that many drive in theaters left in the US. Any drive ins left in your neck of the woods? Or post your drive in stories. |

Or post your drive in stories. We are lucky. We have one 7 miles away, and one about 45 miles away. Both run during the summer. We went this year and will be going again next year. |
| 2 or 3 within 30 miutes drive. One is less than 20 minutes and I make it a point to take the kids there once or twice each summer. My first drive in experience was a double feature, Beneath The Planet Of the Apes and Night Of The Living Dead. IIRC, that was in 68. NOLD, scared the crap out of me. I peaked out from under a blanket from the back of the Ford Country Squire station wagon. I've been hooked on Z flicks ever since. |

I used to live at the edge of town and there was one about 5 minutes walk from the house.. it used to be the place in the summertime on friday/saturday.. we spent a lot of night and days there just bs'ing. they've since tore it down and put in a housing development

we have one about 30 minutes from me, I try and take the family at least once a year to it.
when I was a Kid there was one near me in Fla then they tore it down..I thought I would never experience one again till the wife found the one by us. I wanted my kids to experience one at least once in their life, because one day it too will probably be gone... |

Year 'round here about 20 minutes away with three screens and FM stereo sound.
We take the SUV, park backwards and pop the back door open. I toss a couple sleeping bags back there for padding and warmth. I will not go to a sit-down theater anymore because of youth on their cell phones. |

There used to be one right in town, but it's been closed since the late 70's. While taking a out of town trip a few weekends ago, I noticed one about 40 miles north of me in Grandview. May have to take a rip up there to see a movie next summer, after I find out if it is in operation or not. Looked like it was fairly well taken care of. ETA: According to Bogie's link, the Grandview Drive-In is still open, & was built in 2007 according to the Grandview Drive-In's website. |
For a few years it was close to shutting down, but fortunately business seems to be getting better as it's staying open later in the year than normal.
