I was laying on the couch and heard my GSD haul ass into the kitchen.

He started woofing, I figured he was just being an asshat (he loves to bark), so I take a shower.

I come back out and he is still woofing, so I rack the slide on my .45 and go check it out (there have been some break-ins recently).

I look out the window and I see nothing there, so I look more closely and see this little thing running across the ground.

IT'S A FUCKING FIELD MOUSE!!!

How can something like that alert a dog that is indoors?

smell and noise would be my guess

My dog can smell another dog walking by outside and just go bonkers (hounds can be a pain).

I've got a boxer on a 2nd floor apt.  He knows when his boxer buddy is out for a walk.

Well, another dog I can understand...but a FIELD MOUSE?

My GSD is smart and friendly (knocks little kids over and licks them), but he is extremely territorial.

Back when my dog was younger, she would flip out when squirrels were running around across the street...she would just bolt to the nearest window, barking away...

Consider it a very good and sensitive early warning system.

More importantly, what kind of cookie were you eating in the shower before the interruption?

That dog deserves a treat!

Did you get a shot off ?

Dump a MAG ? and your ears are ringing ?

Please don't tell me the mouse is still in the house - after your GSD DID HIS JOB, and you failed.

Of course you know... George Patton would have slapped the crap out of you in public.
