+1

I have a very nice softshell from TAD gear and it's made n USA.  I prefer the rhinohide over the sharkskin (two of their material choices).   The rhinohide is very tough material and suitable for the kind of outdoor adventures I like.  The sharkskin would end up shredded for me.

carhart jacket they have been making since the early 80's.
blanket lining , the one with the zipper chest pocket,  no hood, has a collar.
Light as a feather and warm as hell.  I am on my third one,  still have the other 2 but they are ragged.
like 40 bucks.

Tad  gear is way to much. 5.11 jackets are nice also try Truspec. I am a quartermaster and deal with both companys I have the 5.11 Agressor parka and the sabre jacket both are very functional and look nice. Our department uses 5.11 3 in 1 jackets and their 5 in 1. Hope this helps.

Dont know how tactical or stylish it is, but my favorite coat is my field jacket with liner. Granted there are some places you wouldnt look right wearing it, but warm as hell.

I really like the jacket the bald dude instructor wears in the NRA home defence instructional DVDs...no idea as to how I would find out what he is wearing however.

This. I always thought they were overpriced but after getting a jack from them in trade I am convinced they are 100 percent worth it.

TAD or Arcteryx are the Shiizznit, TAD recently dropped their prices because some of their stuff is being made overseas now, but is still the same quality.

I really like the Sabre, but my buddy has it and I'm not sure I want to match with him when we go out

I talked to the owner of TAD a few months ago. A couple different teams operating in A'stan are actually using those over there.

TAD Gear has a high quality product and lousy customer service.  If you get the item and there is a problem with it, i.e. wrong size etc good luck returning it.  Buyer beware.

I returned a softshell no problem.  I didn't like the material for my particular intended use as much as the material of a TAD Gear item I already had (I thought they were more similar).  Made a phone call, packaged it up with a brief note and got a very prompt refund.  It was only tried on and still had the tag on it so I guess that helps but it was about as good of a customer service experience I could ever hope for as far as returning an apparel item goes.  TAD Gear is GTG.

I was happier with Arc'Teryx before Salomon bought them.  I have pre-Salomon Arc'Teryx backpack, fleece, fleece vest, shell jacket, shell bib, knee pads and they are all awesome.  The post Salomon purchase stuff seems good but not superb to me.  I don't know about their military/LE line...I've heard it's good but doubt it's like the old days.

This is about as "tactical" as I get.

Quiet, extremely durable, warm dry or wet, and a decent enough disruptive pattern.  I really like my woolrich field coat.

That's a really nice coat.

The TAD Gear stuff is nice, but ridiculously expensive, IMO.

There's plenty of stuff out there that's warm and durable... and doesn't cost a fortune.

If you could get that in black and white plaid, it would be the cat's ass, eh.

You're not from the U.P. are you?
