The recent thread on "Real Country Music", and the events not only at Ft Hood but throughout the world got me to thinking about one of the true performers of our time, Radney Foster.  He doesnt dive into politics he just writes songs and sings them.  Recently he put out this song, and made a video for it.  Even if you dont like country, listen to it.

Good song.

His mom was my brother's kindergarten teacher. He came by and played for them a few times when he was home visiting his folks.

"It don't matter where we touch down, On the angel flight it"s sacred ground"

Radney Fosters releases Angel Flight video
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 – Radney Foster and the Man Bites Dog film production company released their music video of Foster's Angel Flight, about 7 soldiers whose helicopter from the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment of the Texas National Guard went down in southern Iraq - and the Air National Guard crews that bring home the fallen.
Angel Flight, was co-written by Foster and fellow Texan Darden Smith, with harmony vocals by Darius Rucker, is the new single from Foster's recent CD "Revival." The music video was filmed at Hensley Field and Redmond Taylor Army Heliport, both in Grand Prairie, Texas; Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base; and in the cockpit of a C-130 transport plane used for the missions called angel flights.

To honor the memory of the seven who died in September 2008 - Captain Robert Vallejo II, Chief Warrant Officer Brady Rudolf, Chief Warrant Officer Corry Edwards, Sergeant Major Julio Ordonez, Staff Sergeant Luke Mason, Sergeant Dan Eshbaugh and Corporal Mikey Thompson - 90 percent of proceeds from the sale of both the song and video on iTunes will benefit the Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation.

Lyrics are:
Foster sings: "I fly that plane called the angel flight
Come on, brother, you're with me tonight
Between heaven and earth, you're never alone
On the angel flight, come on, brother, I'm taking you home

"I love my family, and I love this land
But tonight this flight's for another man
We do what we do 'cause we heard the call
Some gave a little, but he gave it all"

And: "Well, the cockpit is quiet, and the stars are bright
Feels kinda like church in here tonight
It don't matter where we touch down,
On the angel flight it's sacred ground"

The video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpYVfHTajOg

"The Texas Military Forces appreciates the efforts of Darden Smith, Radney Foster, Darius Rucker, Man Bites Dog and all those who helped make the 'Angel Flight' song and video possible," said Major General Jose S. Mayorga, Adjutant General of Texas. "Proceeds from this project for our Family Support Foundation will go far to benefit military families experiencing difficult situations. We appreciate the care they have taken to memorialize fallen military members and the air crews who bring them home to their loved ones."

Thanks for sharing that.  I was just thinking about Radney the other day and wondered what happened to him.  Haven't heard any of his stuff in a long time.  Powerful song, and the video just made it that much better.

Red River 44, Flipper 75, Collossal 31.................................. Ive lost alot of chinook brothers.  Telling a little girl that her daddy was a brave man that missed her very much, is more than one man can take.  This song is a great honor to those that take to the sky, not for money, pride or egos, but for the love of flight.

I like Radney Foster, brings back some memories....Foster & Lloyd were a great, and sadly forgotten country band.

Well, they're a local band there, so it makes sense! I haven't heard them on our radio for a decade, at least but I still have their albums.
