Northwestern has a football team? Because of the high academic standards at NWU, usually not, no.
I was there during 1995 and 1996, when they were really good, and I remember the game against Iowa when Fitz broke his leg. So it's particularly sweet to see the 'Cats beat Iowa under his leadership. |

Northwestern football teams are like the kid on the track team who almost gets lapped every race. Everybody cheers for them when they do well.
When I started grad school at Northwestern, I think they were coming out of a ten-year period in which they hadn't won a single Big 10 game. 10 years without winning a game in your conference? That was so sad, it was almost funny. I remember people being confused in the 1995 season, because we kept winning.
