Ok, so my idiot friend spilled a pop on top of my wireless router and then unplugged trying to clean it off and now I cannot find my secure network.  I had an encrypted network now the only one showing up in View Available Networks is an unsecured one that starts 064B...  I cannot find the wireless one that I had setup.  I am using XP by the way.  So when I go to Network Connections and right click on the Wireless Network Connection and go to properties and then click on the Wireless Networks tab at the top under the Preferred Networks my secured network shows up by there is a red x next to it.

I have tried resetting both my computer and my wireless router with no success.  Any ideas?

You don't think it is possible that your computer isn't seeing the network because somebody spilled soda on the radio equipment and now it is shot do you?

LOL, This.

However if not.  If you reset the wireless router it would have reset your SSID to default which will more than likely not be secure.  If it is still working, more than likely the one you are seeing is yours.  Connect to it and see.

Start>Run> Type "CMD"  hit enter>  When dos prompt shows up type "ipconfig" hit enter. >  note what it says your gateway address is.

Open browser and put that address in the address bar.  Depending on the brand the useraname and password can be a combo of things, what brand was it?

That is what I thought, but I figured I'd ask anyway.  My only question is why is it still broadcasting the unsecured connection?

It could be that when the liquid got into it, it caused a corruption of the current profile, and the router wasn't able to reload a functional profile so it reset itself to factory defaults.

Good enough for me.  Thanks for the help.

First guess is the unsecured one you're seeing is the neighbors unsecured router.

Second guess is that the spill damaged your router enough to kill encryption, but not enough to kill it entirely.

Either way, use what's available for web surfing (not banking, or anything like that), and get a new router.

This should help you find a new one

So unplug your router and see if that network is still there. If it disappears, you have your answer.
