Two of my friends are currently having a disscussion on whether putting a round in the chamber manually (think dropping it in the chamber while the slide is back) and letting the slide go home after you do such a thing is bad for the extractor.

Personally, I don't think it is because it seems the extractor slams into the base of the round anyway.

But I know the ARFCOM hive will know!

Poll Inbound.

The gun is a Ruger LCP. I know dumb argument but whatever.

I just looked at mine. When chambering a round the rim of the case slides up under the extractor. Slamming the slide into battery causes the extractor to move more than necessary. It may not hurt it if you do it a few times but I wouldn't do it. No reason to load it that way anyway.

It's not recommended to load a round manually.

Controlled feed, like a 1911. If it's a spring loaded external extractor I wouldn't worry quite as much, but a solid one piece extractor can get f'ed up pretty quick by snapping it over the rim like that.

Just load it from the magazine like it's supposed to be loaded.

This. Insert loaded mag, chamber a round, drop mag, add round and reinsert mag. Better to be safe....

I always load my guns from the magazine since that is what the magazine is designed to do.

One thought it was okay to do this whenever. They came to the agreement that it would be acceptable if you absolutely had to do it this way (for what ever reason).

But to load it from the mag.

One friend is the other

And I say: Thank for settling this shit for them so I didn't have to.
