AMC is showing Alien tonight. Hard to believe the movie is 30 yrs old! Geez, I'M old.
I remember seeing the movie when it came out, by myself. The stink of fear in the theater was palpable. Shortly after I went back to my old stomping grounds on vacation; the old gang and I all went to the theater to watch it together (none of them had seen it). Right in the middle of the chest bursting scene, just after the victim had popped on the table and the crew were all freaking out, the guy sitting next to me stood up, groaned loudly, and passed out cold on his feet. It scared the crap out of everyone in the audience. A few of us dragged the guy to the mens' room and got him revived, turned out he'd taken a 'lude or something of the sort before the movie. LOLOL It certainly added to the ambience of the film for the crowd! PS Aliens is on just after, so BOLO. I always considered the sequel to be the better movie. |

Sadly, I was born in 1981, so I didn't get to enjoy watching it on the big screen when it first came out. However, they released the director's cut into theatres for about a week or so I want to say about 7 years ago or so. I was fortunate I was able to see it. Everyone else was there to see some shitty blockbuster action movie, so I got the theatre almost to myself. The artwork and action scenes were even better on the big screen. |

I was 15 and visiting my sister for the summer at Davis-Monthan AFB, in Tuscon. I had the choice to watch "Alien" or "Caddyshack", chose the former. Her sergeant told me that it was a "Three toilet
roll movie", it scared him so bad. The opening scene, where the computer display comes noisily to life and projects it's data onto the helmet, made my older sister scream and claw my arm. The rest of the movie was pretty much like that! Great movie. Loved "Aliens", the rest, Meh! |

Quoted:
I watched an interview of the cast of the movie, Ridley Scott didn't tell them exactly what was going to happen in the chest pop scene, so he could film the reactions of the cast as it happend. Makes the scene look very realistic. That's good direction. It's what it's all about. |

Classic film for sure!
I read the book, then saw it in the theater. I still remember a lady sitting in front and to the right of me literally jumping out of her seat and screaming when the alien popped out and attached itself the the persons helmet at the beginning.
