| Anyone dealt with this before? I think I have issues with it, but only in my arm pits. They'll perspire and I won't even be hot or stressed/nervous and it's annoying as shit. I've used that Sure Dry antiperspirant in the past and it helped, but did not eliminate the issue. I've heard ads on the radio about some sort of outpatient procedure that cures it for 90% of the people, but never inquired into it. |
| There is a prescription antiperspirant that your doctor would probably write you a script for. Its called Drysol. Not sure what the outpatient deal is you mention, but I know in the past botox was used as a temporary fix, and I think still is. I am also aware of some sort of surgery that some symathetic nerves in your chest are severed, which control underarm sweating. |

I have dealt with it. For me its my hands. Same scenario- stress. Treatment was not successful for me. I had a prescription anti-perspirant and it did not help. I've read about other treatments like botox, but I'm not going to try that route.
ETA: Yep. Drysol. Hope it works for you. Don't touch your mouth or nose after application. |

i sweat bad , so did my dad and my grandfather. Dad suggested trying a low dose of xanax after trying various anti perspirants . I talked to my doc about this, prescribed .25mg tablets , 1 to 3 times a day(he said "you'll figure it out").If not we could look into "betablockers"-didn't want to go that route.
Once tablet a day- Bingo...results. Noticed a difference within 3 days. Even my hands are dry. |

Sounds to me like yours might have been stress/emotion induced if all it took was a little Xanax to cure it? For all I know mine could be emotion based but I feel fine? Maybe I just need to go to the doc and see what he says. Not real big on narc pills though. |
| I have it. Mostly my hands but in the pits too occasionally as you described. Several years ago my doc said there is a surgery for it but it's somewhat risky so I opted not to do it. As I got older the problem became less of a factor and now it's not really much of a problem for me. |

Life long issue for me (armpits, mostly). Untreated hyperhydrosis is not easy to deal with. It can erode self-confidence and THAT affects lots of things in life. I have a physician friend who believes the condition is not given appropriate attention in medical schools considering a) the number of suffers and b) the effect on quality of life.
Drysol pretty much controls it for me. Anything less than a 20% aluminum chloride solution (e.g. Certain Dri at 12% and Maxim at 15%) is only marginally effective. http://buydrysol.com has been a reliable source in my experience. I have no health insurance so getting a doc's script is a pain (20% requires a prescription in the US but not Canada). It took me a while to learn how to use Drysol in a way that works for me. I apply it before bed every night. It goes on and I immediately wipe (not wash) it off. As long as I do that every night I'm ok. If I skip a night I notice the next day. If I miss two nights I really notice and it may take several consecutive nightly applications to get back to "square one". If I don't wipe it off (usually use the t-shirt I just took off) it will start to burn/irritate my skin. |
| Both my dad and sister deal with this. There is a simple fix you might want to look into. I am unsure of the cost but it works. They had their over active sweat glands injected with Botox. Botox has had many uses prior to cosmetic use. They get injected one to two times a year and it really works well. Some insurances even pay for this therapy. Just a thought.... |

I've found that shaving my pits helps alot (yeah I know, ghey) It was really bad in high school but I think a combo of shaving and getting a little older (24 now) has reduced it to a more normal level. I used some over the counter stuff with marginal results. That (shaving/trimming short) doesn't help with actual perspiration, but it makes a HUGE difference overall by giving the inevitable bacteria a great deal less surface area to grow upon. Odor is cut down tenfold. |
