Have to say this is the best deal I have ever seen and it convinced me to finally build a new machine (Actually I'm waiting till Black Friday for that but its moot).

Windows 7 Pro full, 30$ dollars plus tax and shipping. The only hitch is that you need to be a student, and by student I mean you need an .edu email address.

Just call 1.877.696.7786 (Microsoft store) before Thursday the 22nd (its a preorder special) and mention that you want the Windows 7 for students 30$ preorder Promotion.

They'll ask you if you want pro or Home (duh) and if you want full or upgrade (double duh).
10/20/2009 5:48:10 PM EDT
[#1]
It's for an upgrade only (or so I have been told...)

Go on ebay and buy a windows 7 key for $25

They ask you if you want upgrade or full. I asked for full.

There is a website with the same deal on it but they are advertising it as upgrade even though people say that its actually full. (Its digitalriver.com or something like that).

Go to the PX...they usually have it cheap there. Not $30 cheap, but cheap. Remember full office suite was like $70 ("Military version")

I already have two copies of ultimate. I got them for free from MS for attending a sales event.

I LOVE WINDOWS 7

At my houshold we have had 3 of those parties, we signed up for this within a day of it being availible, didnt get in, i go to ebay the week they shipped the boxes, and i kid you not there were 200+ of them on ebay. I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE

Anyway, me,my brother, and parents ordered the windows 7 pro for $43. The $30 version is a download only, the $43 version gets you a disk shipped to your house.

ETA: I've never payed more than $20 for a Microsoft OS.  I got Xp pro retail for $20 when I worked at Circuit City.  I picked up a copy of Office 2007 Enterprise for $20 through Microsoft's home use program.  I haven't check there lately, but I'm not holding my breath for Windows 7

Probably because more people in college will use MS software than military people.

Why shouldn't they?

They dont get paid well at all, and their benefits arent that great. And yet they lie down their lives for all of us.

It's fine if a company chooses to, but they shouldn't get flak for not doing so.

That's ludicrous.

I don't think we deserve a discount just for being in the military, but I hate to see liberal dumbfuck college students get rewarded for going to school

ETA: the US government is a huge buyer of Microsoft products.

another thing, as for the Air Force, every member is automatically enrolled in  the Community College of the AF, so there's at least 350,000 military members that are students too.

Just so you guys know, this "upgrade" isnt really an upgrade.

It may say upgrade ont he package, but it will act just like the full retail version, you do not need a previously installed and verified version  of windows on your machine before installing windows 7.

THis has been verified through email contact with digital river HERE

Dear Customer,

Thank you for choosing Windows 7 Online store.

We understand that you are interested to purchase Windows 7 Upgrade
through our online store.

We apologize for the confusion.

The Windows 7 offered in this promotion is a full version. You can
install this product even though
you do not have a previous Operating System installed in your computer
or if you want to make a multi
boot using Windows 7. The "Upgrade" included in the product name is just
because Windows 7 is the
latest Operating System Windows developed.

Sincerely,
Joanna A.

Edit: What the fuck is your people's problem with college students? Didnt get accepted or something?

I dont know if you guys have thought this out, but this is the ultimate marketing ploy. Kids in college right now are VERY tech savy, also being in college they dont have much spare cash, so they will love to take advantage of a $30 OS, do you really think they wont spread the "windows 7 goodness" around. Its the cheapest marketing Microsoft has ever done.

I wanted to get Ultimate, but they don’t offer it. The only thing I will be missing is “Help protect data on your PC and portable storage devices against loss or theft with BitLocker.” And “Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages.” I don’t care about the 35 languages, but am I going to miss the “BitLocker”? What does arfcom think?

I'm going to check out the UF bookstore tomorrow after class to see what deals they have.

What about all the military discounts for firearms etc.,  and who says all college educated people are lazy. That is as fucked up as saying all military people are stupid.

BTW if you buy a key off ebay where do you download the software from?  Also, does the version you install depend on what is currently running on your machine?  I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit, does that limit me to 7 Home or could Ultimate be installed?

Can you use the 64 bit OS on a machine running XP? As far as I know, it's 32bit, but I'd like the best if I can preorder. Disc to my door, w00t.

So is the "electronic" version is a disc image (*.iso), or something else?  The web page doesn't say.  I don't need to pay $13 for an installation disc when I can burn one myself for under $1, given the image file.

well, ideally its for future IT and CS professionals, and it's almost impossible to get in a position where you chose the next OS for the company without a degree.

it's more like Microsoft is trying to exploit students who are cheap and will have some serious power in deciding the future, it's like how HK doesn't focus their rifles on the civilian market so heavily as they do with law enforcement sales.
