Question:  Where does Facebook generate income from?  I thought it was free to use the site?  How the hell they support 700 employees and a state of the (faggot) art headquarters?  Are the "ads" bringing in that much?  Are there even ads on Facebook?

They have ads.  300 million members is a pretty big audience.

Let me tell you how those companies work.

They build a stylin' office as a means to attract the "cool kids" of computer geekdom.
The "cool kids" of computer geekdom are actually suckers who will sell their soul to be associated with a hip web 2.0 company.
The company has all kinds of amenities like free food, free dry cleaning, free car wash and auto tuneup in the parking lot. They may even have an on-sight dentist to clean your teeth and someone to massage your back.

The reason they do this is basically two-fold.

1. They want the employees to think everyone wants to work there, so they better get their ass in line of someone else will take their job in 5 minutes.

2. They never want the employees to leave. This is why they offer all the free crap. If you can get free food, laundry, and a car wash at work, why would you need to leave?

I know that area well. There are tons of young people living and working there, but very few nightclubs and bars. You know why? The guys are working 24/7 and have no time to party.

Cool, I wish our office looked like that... But we're all low-life helicopter guys and we'd just jerk-off all over the couches.

You obviously aren't a college student. MANY aspects of student life rely solely on facebook..  So us "losers" need it.

I am not sure if facebook is yet to turn a profit.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/facebook-heads-towards-profit-1788430.html

Every media site is struggling to make any money off the net. When advertisers know how many people click on their links they can get a good Idea of how poorly banner ads are at attracting anyone.

When is the last time you clicked on any ad on facebook?

Until they start charging for buisness related facebook pages they aren't going to make any money. And when they start charging people to sign up the traffic will just move somewhere else.

Wasn't Facebook just valued at north of $1,000,000,000 recently?

They have value because they can reach so many eyeballs. But they haven't really capitalized on that ability and made any profit.

This is true, but they have potential. Well, actually, they tried in the past and the users bitched.

Twitter is totally fucked. Even the experts can't figure out how they will ever make any money.

I work in a post-apocalyptic sea of beige battleship steel desks designed before the personal computer. The carpet has seen better decades. The office furniture was made back when people believed in making stuff that would last many lifetimes.

Name one, besides getting laid. Even that can be done, largely by moving away from your god damn computer screen and finding something called a wo-man v1.0. You "kids" want it. You do not need it.
