| Springfield Xd-45 Tactical 5" model. Yay or nay? I own a sub-compact xd-40 that has proven itself to be flawless and quite accurate for a 3" barrel. I just also want a full size .45. |
| well i'll still probably just carry my xd-40 subcompact. I tend to leave my 40 in my glove box at night so i dont have to remember to grab my gun every morning. Id like to have the 45 on the bedstand along with my carbine. Plus i like shooting .45s at the range. |

I just like the versatility of the compact. |

It's a full-size pistol. I don't carry it much because my IWB custom rig hasn't arrived yet. The factory holster is a POS that leaves the gun canted way out from my body... and I ain't fat. John I agree, the factory holster for my subcompact left the gun canted out from my body also. |

I have the XD-45 Service Compact. Thought I would utilize the dual grip lengths. I don't. It's too big to CCW (for me) so it stays in the nightstand, with the 13 round mag and insert. It's a touch wobbly (the grip).
I'm sure a one-piece grip would feel more solid. I should have gotten the Tactical. I shot one the other day and the longer sight radius and slightly heavier slide made me a touch more accurate. Just a better nightstand gun for me, especially with a TLR-1 or X300 light. |

For what use? If you're looking at an XD-45 I'd recommend the compact, since it can use normal 13 round mags for home use and IIRC 10 rounders for carry use. +1 Had one and loved it, ran about 1200 down the pipe with no failures. Sold it to fund anpther gun though, wish I still had it. |

I've got the 9mm XD tactical and really like it a lot. Stopped at my dealer today and had him order a XD 45 Compact for me to replace my Glock23. The Tactical model is a full-size gun, you aint gonna hide it easily if you want to, but I didn't intend to CCW mine. I also use a 3P-AT for duty, as the poster above.

I love mine. Never a single failure of any kind and it's got about 700rds through it now. Eats up my 230gr LRN reloads without a hitch and is damn accurate too. It's my SHTF sidearm (w/ SERPA holster) because I've tossed it down in a field a year ago, picked it back up after reloading mags (before I got a holster for it ) picked it up with grass all over and in it and it just kept on going without a single failure. I baby the gun now as it's still pretty much new looking and want to keep it that way. Great gun. Only fault I can see is that it can jam with SWC target loads and some people have had a roll pin break (a lot more uncommon as it seems, there was a poll over on XDtalk which found less than 9% of members have had the problem, and there were a lot of members who answered the poll. I'm lucky enough to be in the 91% who've had no issues Overall great gun IMO. |
| I own an XD9 service, an XD9SC and an XDm-9 and will soon be in the market for an XD45. I'd like to CCW the gun because I love the XD platform but I want a .45 for self-defense, so I'll probably get the compact. The tactical sure is tempting though, that's a damn fine looking gun. The duty version with the thumb/slide safety...well, I"m staying away from that. |

I vote nay. I have seen nothing but bad luck with every XD i have encountered at the range. And some people think the USP has a high bore axis. What kind of bad luck ? Bad accuracy ? Reliability ? How many have you seen ? Best friend had a tutone XD9. The gun repeatedly had light strike problems. The same ammunition would function 100% in my CZP01, USP9 Compact, and P7M8. In the academy there was a kid shooting an XD40 Tactical. Repeated failures to feed nearly every other magazine. Same ammo ran fine in the Berettas/Glocks/Sigs/HK's. Another friend had an XD45 fullsize. Repeated failures to feed and eject, at least once every magazine. Usually once a month at our quals there is a person who has some various failure with their XD. Mostly failures to extract. YMMV |

Quoted: Great gun. Thousands of rounds through it, not one problem. I advise everyone to buy them. Liked it so much I bought another. My experience is similar. I have 10's of thousands of rounds through my two XD 40s. So reliable its boring. Bought a service model, liked it so much that I bought the sub-compact shortly there after. |

It's an excellent weapon. Accurate, reliable and is a joy to shoot. I wasn't expecting to like that firearm anymore than a glock or other popular synthetic models but I definitely do. I really like glocks in .45 acp but I would opt for the xd45 if forced to choose.
You won't be disappointed. |

Tag for reply when I get back..... I'm back... I have an XD45 Tactical with the optional thumb safety and I am very, very pleased with it. I added a set of XS tritium night sights (small dot front). I carry it every day in a Comp-Tac C-Tac IWB holster. It is BIG and you do have to choose your shirts accordingly. I carried one of my 1911's or a Glock G22 for 13 years prior to getting the XD so I have always carried a full size pistol. I also use the XD45 to shoot USPSA/IPSC Limited Div. I have about 1500 rounds through it without any malfunctions. On my match mags I use the Arredondo +3 base pads/extra power spring for a total of 16+1 rounds to start each stage. I had to trim off 1/8 inch off the "foot" of the mag follower to get all 16 rounds in the mag and have it lock in the mag well with the slide forward. This combo works well for me and is a lot of fun. Never going to make A Class but having a good time when I get to shoot a match and have learned a lot about pistol shooting. I started reloading and wanted to come up with a load that would shoot soft but still cycle the XD 100% still using the stock recoil spring. The first batch of ammo was a little weak at 5.2 grains and had a few stove-pipes. When I increased it to 5.6 I was good to go and runs 100% on this ammo for the last several hundred rounds. It has never malfunctioned on any factory ammo. Even when I let my wife shoot it and she was "limp-wristing" it really bad it still ran fine. I runs all JHP's tried so far, from 185 gr to 230 gr +P. I have always owned/shot 1911s and Glocks and like them both really well. Still have the 1911s. That being said, I'm really sold on the XD45 and XD40 (my oldest son has the XD40). I'm thinking about the Springer Precision trigger job for my XD45 but now that I'm acclimated to the stock trigger I may just leave it alone. If the XD45 fits your hand and points well for you then go for it. The 5" XD45 is a great pistol. Clint Smith likes the XD45 and he knows more about shooting than I do. |

I love my 4" .45 with the fullsize grip. Never a single malfunction, pretty accurate, and an unbelievably tough finish. I have dropped it on concrete (unloaded) and I cannot find a scratch. ETA http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh174/smokiesmokie/DSC_0215.jpg LOL, both our pics have a gun, knife, flashlight and bag. I guess that makes me the copycat. |
