I have been looking to buy a Colt pistol to give to my son for his next birthday. I have been
looking on Gunbroker and other sites. I want a Colt. My son is named Colton and I want
to give him a Colt. I search for Colt and get all kinds of crap coming through the search with not colt
in the ad title. I have seen these tactics on various classified and auction sites. It really pisses me off. Why
do the sites allow this misrepresentation?

Does this piss anyone else off or am I being petty?

If you change your search so it shows Firearms only for your results, that cuts alot of the crap out. Wont cut it all out but it helps.

An example of what I am talking about.

Searched Colt .45 and get this

Use more specific searches like, Colt 1991, or Colt Mark IV, etc.

It isn't a misrepresentation.  That Sig isn't a Colt.  It sucks but it is not wrong.  It just makes your search take a few minutes longer.

Try this

Its almost all Colts with maybe 4 or 5 Kimbers or Dan Wessons thrown in.

LOL I can't understand why someone would include "not Colt!" Sure, it will get them hit if someoen searches for Colt, but since they were looking for Colt not Sig, what good does it do them?

It's called keyword spamming.  Most auction sites won't allow it, and will delete listings upon being reported.

I am glad I am not the only one that it annoys the hell out of.  I refuse to buy from anyone who does it.

Try this search string

In >Pistols >Semi-auto

colt -Not

If you keep getting crap, say like Sig in your example just add a space and -sig

colt -not -sig

Hope this helps.

ETA: Save this search in your auctions and you g2g.
ETA2: This gets you down to 7 pages.
colt 1911 -not -walther -argentine -standard -reproduction -wesson

Me too.

What really made me mad was when I was looking for Varget a few months ago.  Some asshole sellers listed a whole string of powder names in their title and had a pic of a whole shelf lined with powder jars.  You had to click on it to see what was actually for sale.  On dial-up that amounts to a HUGE waste of time!

If you think that's bad, try eBay. Absolute insanity.

Some of us don't have access to highspeed internet in the sticks.

And satellite is way too expensive for what you get.
