My truck just died, it was working 20 minutes ago when I moved it. Here is the video of the sound it makes when I try to start it. Video.

Try charging your battery.

Sounds like someone hooked up an MG-42.

Have you tried whacking the starter with a wrench?

I know it sounds crazy, but it's worked for me once or twice.

I tried a couple times but it didn't have any affect yet.

The battery is fine, the radio and lights are working.

It sounds like your starter. Whack it with a wrench. Seriously. I had a jetta that did that and I had to "tap" the starter sometimes to get it to work. I don't think it was shimmed right and the gears would become meshed.

FYI, it takes a whole hell of alot more to start a car than it does to run those.

Just because the radio and lights are working doesn't mean that it has enough power to turn over the starter.

Do you have a Multimeter?

It sounds to me like the starter gear is not fully engaged with the flywheel. It might be a bad starter bendix or a chewed up flexplate.

This.

Sounds like the battery is trashed to me.

Well, I got it to start after banging on the starter again and making sure the battery cables had a sound connection. I'll have to stop by Advance Auto tonight.

Tapping the starter gets what's remaining of the brushes to contact the arbor again.

It likely means your starter is worn and needs to be replaced.

It sounds like you may have one cell that is bad, you just can't generate enough current to turn the motor over but everything else works.
Next choice would be the starter not engaging.

For future reference...try only doing/changing only one thing at a time and then see if it starts.  It will help you pinpoint what the real problem was.

Next time it does this, locate the starter solenoid.  Have someone turn the key over while you look at the solenoid.  If the chattering noise is coming from there, my shade-tree mechanic guess is the solenoid is not getting enough voltage from the battery.  Make sure connections are CLEAN also, not just tight.
