Since the triggers on the LCP are adjustable are they significantly better than the P3AT?

I had the latter and decided it was a 3" pistol with a 3 1/2" trigger pull.

My local dealer doesn't have the LCD in stock and I don't want to order one if the trigger on it is as bad as the Kel-Tec.

Thanks for the help.

you can adjust the trigger on a Ruger LCP?

The LCP in my pocket does not have an adjustable trigger.

is recoil any better on the lcp?

A friend I ran into awhile back said he bought a LCP.

I said they looked to me to be a direct copy of a P3AT  and it's trigger sucked BIGTIME!

He then stated the Ruger has an adjusatable trigger that made it far superior to the Kel-Tec.

It could be BS trying to make me think he didn't buy a piece of junk.

Some people think their "stuff" is always superior to everything anyone else has an I've noticed this with this fellow before.

That's why I thought the Ruger had an adjustable trigger and was looking into it.

So...anybody tried both? How do the triggers compare?

Thanks for letting me know the LCP doesn't have the adjustable trigger though!

I haven't shot a LCP but the keltec's trigger was terrible on the 2 of them I've shot. The old 20# safety.

LCP I just shot was the same, 40# pull and LONG travel to set it off

I have never shot the P3AT, only the LCP. My experience was ok. The purpose of the gun is for self-defense, nothing more. This is not a range gun. I fired 50 rounds through it at the range in one session and my hand was left sore and tired. When I picked up my USP, the trigger pull seemed non existent since I was used to pulling the heavy LCP trigger. The narrow, small grip also made my hand cramp after 50 rounds. It was not fun to shoot.

That said, the gun is a pocket pistol designed for concealed carry. I am confident that it will do its job if I ever need it. I can shoot my other concealed carry gun much better, but for those days when I just want to drop a pistol in my pocket and go, the LCP is adequate. I don't think you would go wrong with either gun. I think Ruger has fixed the original problems they had with the LCP.

Well, for unholstered pocket carry without a manual safety, is this a bad thing?  Seems to me that a crisp, 1.5 pound break might be a titch outta place

For what it is, the trigger on the LCP isn't bad. A few hundred rounds down the pipe doesn't hurt it any either.

Mine has a considerably lighter trigger than a J frame with a very long reset. If you're used to resetting the trigger under recoil on an auto pistol like a Glock it's easy to short-stroke the reset on the LCP until you get used to it.

The accuracy is exceptionally good for such a small pistol. Some people have bitched about the accuracy but that's probably because they can't shoot. I did relatively well with it, as you can see, and I was still the weak link in the chain of weapon-ammo-shooter.

Mine has been reliable with 90 grain Gold Dot JHP and all the different types of FMJ I've fed it. The Crimson Trace laser module is a welcome addition to the weapon.

both have bad triggers. had the keltec got rid of it. I like the ruger simply becuase is a little smoother and feels a lot nicer in my hand. pretty much the same gun. kel is little cheaper in price

It looks like a refined copy of the Keltec....

whitewater:

I have not used the Keltec.  Therefore, I cannot make a valid comparison.

I do own a Ruger LCP.  I purchased it a couple months ago.  The trigger IS definitely long, and it is somewhat stiff. I do not have a trigger oull gauge but mine seems comparable to a standard Glock (about 5.5 lbs).   GunBlast tried one and it measured 5.6 lbs.  Ruger specs an 8# trigger pull, which is decent but most standards (A lot of other DA/SA firearms need 11#+  for first strike. )   However, its long, relatively smooth and can be mastered relatively easily.  I find the major issue with the LCP isn't pounds of pull but rather the length of the DAO trigger pull, again, much like a glock or perhaps an XD.  Because its a small pistol it isn't forgiving.  You need to do your work, it'll do its job.  If you aren't smooth, you'll pull it off target...

I can usually "stack" a revolver or DAO auto.  The Ruger requires a different technique.  Point, hold firmly, sweep the trigger finger back in one smooth, decisive pull.

While this is no target pistol, it is surprisingly accurate.  I cannot vouch for all LCP's but mine will hit a softball sized target, virtually every time, out to 20 yards.  That's damned good accuracy for a tiny little hideout gun with a DAO trigger.  Two friends have used mine.  As a result Ruger sold two additional LCP's.

Mine does shoot somewhat low. No problem. I use a modified sight picture and its on that softball sized target every time....

I'd buy mine again.

To focus on the trigger is to misunderstand what this weapon is for. The LCP is not about being comfortable to shoot.  Its role is to be small and light enough that you will have it in your pocket whenever you leave home.

Guess I should clarify my original question.

I simply wanted to know about the LCP since I thought Ruger must have refined it.

With the P3AT I had no problem with accuracy, recoil, anything EXCEPT the crappy trigger!

When the fellow told me the LCP had an adjusatable trigger (which I now know is false) I thought I'd be interested.

Having had the Kel-Tec I know it's purpose as a "pocket pistol" and yes it will shoot.

The trigger still sucked BIGTIME, PERIOD!

Since the LCP doesn't have an adjustable trigger I'll just pass.

No need to spend more $$ on a copy of something I didn't like to start with.

Thanks to all for the input.

The recoil is far less on the Kahr P380.

My wife said she wouldn't want to shoot the Ruger LCP, while she would go plinking with the Kahr P380.
