I got this kid on facebook who I graduated with who is a liberal through and through, a moon bat if you will. Here was his recent post today: This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At the appropriate time, as regulated by the U.S. Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the U.S. Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school. After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department. And then I log on to the internet –– which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration –– and post on Freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right. He's got about 8 of his liberal friends who just think this is the greatest thing ever written. I'm dying to write a comment but and trying to formulate a response that will be hard to dispute. Any thoughts? |

Sure, show him examples of all the fuckups those departments have made.
NOAA/NWS messing up forecasts. NASA losing that billion dollar spy satellite a while back (or was that the Air Force) Food poisoning, et al not caught by USDA - what was the last one, tomatoes? Examples of NHTSA tested cars or tires failing (firestone/explorers?) Public school vs private/home school SAT/ACT scores? Quotes from police about their inability to prevent all crime? Be sure to mention that none of what he says would be possible without the involvement of private industry. Who actually paved the roads? Who built the satellites? That shit gets contracted out. The government doesn't actually do much of this stuff, it just sets guidelines for private industry to follow. |
|
I know I should just ignore him, but that's not in my nature. If everybody in this world just ignored liberals and didn't throw their bullshit back in their face, where would we be today? I'm usually pretty good about coming up with stuff, but am just drawing a blank today. |

And all of it is paid for, or subsidized, by taxes, or people in the public sector.
At some point, there is not enough public sector left to tax or bill for services. America is running at about 49% of the population being some kind of public sector employee (military, teachers, .gov workers etc.), a public sector pensioner, or entitlement receiver. If you socialize medicine/healthcare, you'll be socializing approximately another 18% of the U.S. internal economy. So what happens when 67% of America is a net tax receiver, and not a net tax producer. Any bill that contains a public option insurance combined with forced coverage mandate will eventually socialize almost ALL healthcare in the U.S. because the providers will eventually need to be subsidized (and forced) to keep on working, once the insurance is all public and the free market inducments to medical excellence begin to die off. |

He's assuming that those things were all INVENTED or FOUNDED/STARTED by the government. Ask him who invented the automobile. Ask him who invented highways. The US Post Office is not run by the government anymore, and they're not doing too well, AFAIK. There are better services for getting items from one place to another that are NOT (were not started by) government entities. You also need to let him know that the view of the Right is that government law is necessary, but only in as much as to protect the rights and liberties of it's citizens. Tell him he's still free to choose where to live. Tell him he's still free to choose what kind of car to drive... what clothes to wear... what food to eat... what job to do... You can include this, too: What makes this country unique and great is the fact that our founding fathers believed so strongly in individualism that they placed the rights of the individual above the rights of the collective society, or the "common good." It was founded on the precepts of individual freedom and individual responsibility. It is not the role of government to protect you from yourself, your bad choices, poor judgment, ignorance or bad luck. It's not the role of government to provide you with food, shelter, medical care, vacations or employment or anything else. Nor does the government have the right to take away what is yours to provide these things for others. The only legitimate role of the government is to protect your rights from the infringement of others. That means law enforcement, criminal justice and a strong military. If you want to give your money to someone who is having a hard time that is fine, matter of fact the people of this country give more by far than any other nation on earth. But the government should not be able to take your money and give it to others to provide these things. |

| Big difference between regulatory agencies (FDA, OSHA, USDA) / critical infrastructure orgs (NASA, DoE) and a creating a socialized services agency (SS, Medicaid, etc). The healthcare field is already heavily regulated. I don't buy my drugs FROM the FDA, I don't buy my meat FROM USDA, and I don't work FOR OSHA. |

None of that is Socialism. Obama already said FedEx and UPS are doing better than the Govt' Post Office. Obama took over GM - and it immediately went bankrupt. Obama took over Chrysler, and it disappeared. Obama DIDN'T take over Ford, and Ford is recovering just fine now. The Gov't was overseeing FannieMae - and it crashed and caused the biggest economic disaster in the last 70 years. There was rarely any times in US history when we were at peace and yet still experiencing economic inflation - until the Gov't created the Federal Reserve. Since then, inflation has always been present. The Gov't created Social Security - the greatest ponzi scheme in history - and it is now just six years away from going into default. The Gov't created the Dept. of Education - and since then our K-12 education has gone from the top to rock bottom compared to all industrialized nations. The Gov't created the Dept. of Energy - and since then we have only increased our dependency on foreign oil. The Gov't created Medicare and Medicaid - and they're going bankrupt too. Starting in 1955, the US Poverty Rate declined 1-2% every year - up until 1965 which the year that the Liberals' "War On Poverty" began. Since then, the poverty rate has remained virtually unchanged. IOW, the FedGov actually STOPPED the steady decline in poverty by instigating its "War On Poverty". Job well done there Gov't! Shall we talk about the Government's stunning success of the "War On Drugs" too? Obama has quadrupled the annual deficit to nearly $2 Trillion - and that's just the DEFICIT. The DEBT is now a staggering $12 Trillion and Obama hasn't even gotten his most expensive Socialist scams passed yet! And he has absolutely NO clue and has presented NO plan for ever reducing that debt. His own deficits continue to skyrocket into the trillions of dollars a year - for as far out as anyone can project! THAT'S just a taste of the "success" of Liberal Socialism in America. |

Or throw this at him, and ask him which type of person he is: There are 4 Types of people in a society: 1)Producers These are people who produce, which results in economic growth, and provides tax revenue. This tax revenue supports the next three types. 2)Necessary Non Producers These are people like law enforcement, firefighters, and the military who do not contribute to production, but are an important part of protecting the producers. 3)Non Producers These are people who do not produce or facilitate production. A lot of these folks work very hard in their government jobs, however many of these jobs are unnecessary. 4)Parasites These are people that do not produce, and will never produce as long as they receive support from the government. They will remain dependent on the government until and unless that support is no longer available. When Non Producers, Parasites and Necessary Non Producers outnumber Producers in a capitalist nation, the system will collapse. The problem is as the Producers see the trend and their jobs leave the country they will become Non Producers or Parasites, speeding up the collapse, and when we are out of Producers, there is no way to pay for Necessary Non Producers, Non Producers and Parasites. |

Tell him he's a simple minded Democratic fuck. That's what this black chick said(well she called me a simple minded Republican fuck) when I dared to say that Michael Vick is disgusting when she was saying she was going to the Bears-Eagles game to cheer him on. |

send him this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRdLpem-AAs ![]() then post on your status this quote from Reagan: "Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them." –– Ronald Reagan "In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." –– Ronald Reagan. |

Socialism is an economic principal. It's bad, not because of government, because successful Capitalists say so. Who are your successful Socialist roll models?
Make an appointment with the Social Security Administration, then get back to me. I'm borrowing your car next week to move some stuff. Can you make sure the gas tank is full when I come to pick it up? Thanks. |

I think a big problem we have is that we have let the .gov become them instead of US when we do that we get the government we deserve, demagogues and bought and paid for hypocrites. |

John Stossel covers it pretty well right here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdx_2cuPgQQ - - - - - Here's a link that discusses the issue of Canada's health care system "imploding" as described by The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association. http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5jbjzPEY0Y3bvRD335rGu_Z3KXoQw - - - - - ...and finally, I can relate to you my own observation of the British National Health Service. While stationed in the UK, I had a British employee that worked for me. He only had one good arm. The other arm was curled up and useless. He woke up one morning and realized that he was having a stroke. He went to the local hospital where they let him sit in the waiting room for the remainder of his stroke instead of treating him. Neat huh? |

Funny, for the most part those things are not, and have never been provided by private industry. What interest would private industry have in regulating food?
Also, pretty much all of those organizations are unconstitutional, the 10th amendment is pretty clear on this. |
|
Tell him to read the Constitution, Article 1, section 8. These are the ONLY powers GRANTED to the Federal government by the Constitution itself, otherwise, all those things he mentioned would be done by private enterprise.
That means they would all be done efficiently, effectively, with little or no waste, creating millions of jobs in the private sector instead of millions of people on the Federal payroll sucking the life out of us taxpayers. Explain to his sorry little socialist ass that anything the goobermint does, the private sector can do at least a thousand times better. There, now you take it from here. |
|
Do away with the FDA, USDA and all such agencies and private companies would spring up like mushrooms to take their places, much like UNDERWRITERS LABRATORIES. Companies that process food would be glad to pay big money to reputable labs to monitor their products for Salmonella and a myriad of nasty things that would not only cost them many millions to recall, but save them millions more in lawsuits. Same with the drug companies and any other Industry you can think of. Not only would competition keep these Labs on their toes, but the competition would keep the cost down, costing pennies on the dollar, compared to having a government that has no concern at all about cost control. |

Fight on the high ground, make the honest argument the second you open your mouth and make some terrible argument that a four year old can see problems with we lose... we lose credibility. Don't get me wrong I don't like Obama but saying Obama made GM bankrupt is like saying George Bush created hurricane Katrina and made it go to New Orleans

He took over and they went into bankruptcy anyway. They could have (and SHOULD have) done that WITHOUT having Obama take over. But instead, he decided to just throw basic contractual law out the window and award primary status to his UAW-campaign donors, over and above the rightful stakeholders. Companies go out of business every day. Big companies too. But... Obama had some paying back to do for his Union Thugs - and they got control of GM through his unelected, unaccountable "car czar". |
