It seems like no one on Arfcom went to a  public school. Just a poll to see some numbers.

I went to public schools.  My high school was something like the one in "Dangerous Minds," at least my junior and senior year.  Freshman/sophomore was pretty tame.

I too am a victim of the public school system.  It really messed with my ego for a while....only later did I realize that I'm not brilliant, it's just that most people are actually that dumb.  Don't believe me?  Go to the courthouse and watch a jury selection, you will feel like your living the movie idiocracy.... if you don't well,  umm i guess your just lucky.

Got both.

I did. I had one fantastic teacher in elementary who made a big difference, one in middle school, and about 4 in highschool. In highschool I took AP classes just so I could get the good teachers. I learned most of what I know from those few people. They also taught me how to study correctly. Now I'm in college with a 3.84 GPA and twice as many credits as most sophomores start out with.

I put "Public Schools" since that's where I spent my days from age 5 to 18.

However your poll is begging the question, because the poll choices don't correspond to the question at hand.

My basic education came from my parents and family. My mother taught me to read and write, and to write well. My father taught me trigonometry and electric circuits. My grandmother taught me cursive writing. Encyclopedias, the Boy Scout Handbook and a library card taught me most everything else.

Certain teachers in my public school experience taught me other specialized subjects (Matrix math, calculus, chemistry), but on the whole, I would say that my time in the public school system was time that could have been better spent.

Kindergarten and First I went to public school.  2nd, 4th, and 5th homeschooled.  Skipped 3rd.  Mom sent me back to public school, had to do 5th grade again so I would be with all the friends I didn't have.  Homeschooled 6th through first half of 9th.  Went back to public school second half of 9th through 12th.

Public schools from 1-12 and 3 1/2 years of college.

My little bro went to Catholic school from 1-8 grades (Biggest crock of shit ever) and then private school from 9-12 grades and is currently in a private university.

As far as the home school crowd goes. I have met 4 and all were complete social retards. No offense to any home school supporters here but it is the truth. IMHO.

I went to both. I flipped flopped between private and public school k-12th grade. I didn't notice anything substantially different between the two in elementary and middle school. However, when I got to high school, the education I received in public school was significantly lower in quality.

For example, in public school Spanish class, the teacher would just read us words in spanish then tell us the definition in English the whole class period. In private school, the Spanish class was an immersion type class that had students able to carry on a basic conversation by the end of the year.

Did public school teach you that the word "both" indicates "two" and not "three" as in three options on the poll?

Back in the Dark Ages when I went to school, you actually got a good education in public schools.  I also got a good education in state colleges.

Times have changed.

Eys dint go to nos skool. Gots me a bangstik.

Public. But I've learned far more on my own and from my parents than in school (at that goes for college as well). Of course my wife gives me funny looks when I pick up a book on laser beam quality as a little light reading before bed.

Homeschool until college, then graduated from a damn fine college with a good GPA in a damn hard program... no "Theories of Germanic yodeling" here. My job requires me to interact with people from all walks of life (From day laborers to millionaires) on an interpersonal level, on a daily basis... I am certainly no social retard.

Most the public school victims I meet under the age of 30 are socially inept outside of their own age group, and generally unable to think for themselves... god help them if put in a situation that requires creative, critical thinking.... don't get me started on how bad they are at managing personal finance. Yikes. I have honestly wondered what in the hell they spent all that time in the system learning. Most of the time they can't really write well, can't recall basic algebra, and struggle to apply anything they do remember in school (Through college) to real life.

Well shit I know several hundred that do a lot better than the home schooled I have met.

But you keep thinking that.

I have had one on one's with billionaires in my previous company. Also none of the executives of that company were home schooled. Please show me a home schooled CEO or billionaire that has come about in the last 20-30 years.

Whatever makes you feel better though.

I went to a decent public school. Many are still decent. Parents have more to do with how much of an advantage you take with your education.
