Jefferson, in Paris, speaking of the Shay's Rebellion in Massachusetts.

Pointing out that a little violent civil disturbence was good for a Democracy.  I wonder what he would have said had he been a land or business owner in Massachusetts at the time.

This goes along with what Thomas Paine said -

"Time makes more converts than reason...A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right."

It's application to contemporary events is this; The politicians need to be reminded that what they are doing is wrong, but the people have ignored the advice of T.J. and have fallen into a state of complacency that occurs when enough time has gone by that they have forgotten what the politicians are doing is in fact wrong.
