You know, you really have to hand it to this company.

They took a distant second in the competition for desktop and home computing. They had enough market share to stay alive and profitable, but they were a very small segment of that market.

Then the MP3 comes out and Apple hits it big...REAL big! Now everyone and their brother has an Ipod and/or an Iphone. BANG! They're back in the game, and big. I think that Apple has a the future of personal and "desktop" computing by the ass. Smaller, multifunctional wireless devices such as Ipods and Iphones are going to get much more powerful and I believe will take over a huge portion of the the personal computer's function, if not replace it completely. Not that I'm really any kind of visionary for saying so, because in a lot of ways that has already happened.

The thing is though, that Apple has a leg up on the "tablet PC".  Once the capacity for the Ipod/Iphone is up to about a terabyte (and supposedly there are technologies that will allow for very small devices to store that much information) then I think you'll see the end of the laptop and a lot less PCs. Personally, I'd like to see the Ipod/Iphone (or it's replacement) get slightly bigger so that the display is larger and so that the typing area is a little bigger.

Anywho, just thought I'd give you guys my opinion is all.

And having tech support 24/7 with people in California, not Timbuktu, one of the best warranty's of any computer manufacturer and some killer software (iMovie, Garageband, etc.).

Even funnier are the people happy to spend the money because they see the value of the price beyond just cost.

MacBook Pro you linked has a faster processor, better battery life, better warranty, both an integrated and separate faster graphics card, and is made out of aluminum and not plastic.

Might be cool, might just be another way Big Brother can watch us at all times. Big Brother could be .gov or it could be advertisers wanting to chase you down at every opportunity so they can cram their message in your eyeballs.

As always, Apple will lead and the entire market will follow.

this is a never ending thread - dude, get the computer you like and what works for you. Mac guys will never understand PC's and vice versa. If someone wants to spend 2000 on a colt and another spends 700 on a M4 clone let it be.

on that note - so is .45 better than 9mm for carry?

Lately it seems to me like Apple is taking ideas that failed for other companies, or didn't hit as big for other companies and then turning them into world changing devices.

no.. I do IT stuff and price a lot of laptops for corporate. the price diff I've seen between the 2 equally speced systems is about 500 bucks. you need to remember that the Mac system only comes with a nvidia vid card. so you cannot compare a ATI equipped system with an nvidia one..

Ive been a big PC guy (and still am), and still am but I have to give props to mac for there products..

Overpriced...overhyped...well, over-pretty much everything.  I do like the I-Phone.  Good roll, there.
If they were in the same ballpark price-wise as PCs...and the other 98% of the world's coders and programmers starting actually acknowledging the existence of Apple; they might become more palatable.

Human interfacing is where Apple excels, IMO.  Like it or not, easier use is what a lot of consumers want.

I use both PCs and Macs.

They say the same about gay sex and meth.

I've been on both platforms professionally since 1986, and I still prefer the PC for nearly everything. I don't find the Mac easier or more intuitive at all, never did and I started on them. It's more like dumbed down/simplified, or limited as far as options as to appear simple. It's a bolt gun to the PC's M16....they both shoot the bullet, it's more of ergonomics, speed, adaptability, etc. The Apple has made some strides since becoming...ahem....PC-like with the OSX/Intel thing, but they still cling to the old "pretty but dumb" GUI options.

There are always folks who claim that the Mac is a slicker, easier to use interface but I've got years of daily, intensive use in multimedia, graphic design and IT use on both and I've yet to find a clear advantage as far as "takes 1 step to do what takes 3 on the PC" hype. In fact, a lot of the time the PC is faster as far as automation (especially when you factor in the ability to change the interface of a Windows box as it suits you)...or the ability to quickly find an aftermarket or free solution to accomplish something.

And, all of this really becomes the PC's domain when we start looking at gaming and heavy computing....horsepower & workability per dollar spent is so heavily in the PC's favor you have to REALLY want to make an Apple work for you and even then it's not going to be the best solution.

"They" are wrong.

I've used PC since 1987 and Mac since 2004. There is no contest. Mac is easier, more enjoyable, and a damned sight more stable than any PC I've been on. I am still forced to use Windows at work, and I am blessed with an IT department that keeps the system running without my having to worry about it, but it's still a chore.

It's the OS and the software. I've worked with Linux and Windows and they don't compare. If you do lots of editing text or photos or videos then I believe Mac could be for you, The best way I can describe it is that it's almost a Fine Arts vs Science thing.

I'm typing on a PC laptop now, but the next one will be an Apple.

For me, owning a Mac has nothing to do with style. I could really care less about that.

It has everything to do with function. I use both Mac and PCs (work). I can't count the number of times I just cringe at the PC: non-intuitive UI, sluggishness, malware/viruses, random crashes... the list is endless.
