I was stuck inside on a perfectly beautiful day yesterday with a raging headcold (getting better today). I really wanted to get the bagpipe practice chanter out and work on some tunes, but worry about permanently cootifying my pipe with this crud I have stuck upstairs. I don't want to play, then heal up, then get sick again later this week due to some crud I left in the pipe.

Is it even an issue?

Fill your bathtub up with a warm water solution with 5% bleach content.

Climb in and play your bagpipes while underwater.

It won't help with controlling germs, but your neighbors will be happier.

I doubt it would be an issue.  Once it dries, most bacteria and viruses will die off.  Unless you really hack some nasty lung cookie into it and it can sit in there and mutate.
