| Just was told my last day is Friday and then I am getting laid off for 3 weeks. Damn... |

Quoted:
Only 3 weeks? Do you mind if I ask what you do? 3 weeks isn't the end of the world if you've saved She mentioned "when work picks back up in 3 weeks". I think 3 weeks was the owner being hopeful. With our current work load, it might be closer to 3 months or who knows? |

Prepare mentally for the worst. I was off for 3.5 years and some of my friends expected 6 months. They burned through half their 401k's before they figured out we were in for the long haul.
These days, I think everyone should at a minimum be "considering the possibility" that you could get laid off. You don't have to be sending out resumes all the time but at least war game what you would do. Good luck! TC |

3 weeks? if thats a for sure thing, call it a vacation. file for unemployment and call it a paid vacation. Take the family on a cheap road trip. Go shooting. Couple projects around the house. Got any hobbies you've neglected? Thats pretty much what I'm doing, without the 3 weeks 'go back to work' part. Got 'furloughd' a month ago. best thing ever to happen to me, and at just the right time. gone camping with the kids, weekend trip with the wife, fixed up my cargo trailer, gone fishing a bunch. Scan the want ad's a few times a week to see who's hiring. Apply when i go out and about. Hunting season will start up in a few more weeks. My brother is on unemployment as well. We're planning a trout fishing trip in the up coming weeks, and to job hunt around Branson, MO.
Whatever you do, dont panic. If you live a balanced life financially and have some cash reserves, kick back and relax. |
