So after coming home from work today I heated up some popcorn on the stove for my fiancee. While still in the pot she placed it on the carpet and started eating it. Five minutes later i come out of the shower and hear " promise you won't be mad", which is never a good thing to hear. l take a look on the carpet and there is a 8 inch portion of the carpet that is melted. Its not terrible, but as i live in an apartment when i move out i'm sure they won't be pleased. Any advice on whether i may be able to fix this quietly or cheaply

if the apartment complex has some left over carpet, it can be patched. Otherwise you can try and match it up yourself, but chances are it aint gonna happen.

One idea is have someone pull carpet out of a small closet and use that for a patch. Should be same color lot and match. Then you can find something that closely matches and use that in the closet. That way maybe no one will notice.

This is what I suggest to all of my clients with similar issues. I work at a flooring shop.

I had that happen.  My neighbor, who is a carpet guy, came over and cut out the melt in a circle.  He then cut the exact same size circle out of a closet.  Used whatever carpet magic melt tape shit to put the piece of carpet out of the closet in the melted spot.  Make sure the fibers line up right.

When he was done, you couldn't tell at all.  It matters on the age of the carpet though.  Our carpet was only a few months old. If its been a while, you might see a slightly different color due to wear or sunlight.

Does the carpet match the drapes?  We'll need pics.

OR when you move out make sure the power had been turned off and stand on that spot during the final inspection.. LOL

More honestly - tell the landlord and maybe if they are planning on replacing the carpet anyway they will look over it.. I had a landlord do that for me..

l should say that this spot is not a burn only a weird sort of melt in the fabric about 1 millemeter thick and about 3 X 5 inches long. l have no carpet in my closets so thats not an option. im going to try to pluck some of it off the surface and see what happens.....
