Just checking here....
Say I have my CCW... Is it legal to carry your brothers gun or dads gun on you? |
|
Quoted:
I could have sworn that some states list the make, model, and serial number of the gun you qualified with on your permit. I could be wrong, though... since I'm in a commie state with no CCW until I move. ![]() I think NV has something like this, don't quote me on it though. |

Quoted: CA has it on the permits they actually issue. I believe you have a max of 5 or something too.Quoted: I could have sworn that some states list the make, model, and serial number of the gun you qualified with on your permit. Nevada handgun law PDF I was just looking through the commie states at handgunlaw.us to find who had this. I never thought to check Nevada... Edit: Can anyone from one of these states say what the penalties are if you get caught with a gun that isn't on your permit, and if people actually get in trouble for that? |

But the OP lives in PA, which isn't one of those commie states that makes you qualify with a firearm to get your permit.

Yes, I wouldn't have thought that NV would have something stupid like that. I wonder if that is part of the reason they (NV) are no longer recognizing Utah's permits? |

They stopped recognizing Florida permits as well, their stated reason? Florida permits are now good for seven years rather than five. |

NV claims that the reason they dropped our CWL is because we don't require a live fire exercise in our issue process. |

I thought it was only your sister or cousin's Just so long as your father and mother aren't brother and sister (except for LA, AL, & MS.. where that's perfectly acceptable)

Yes we have to shoot and qualify with any simi auto hand gun we carry. The funny part is that if you qualify with a revolver you can then carry any revolver.
The reason they no longer recognize a Utah or Florida permit is that you don't do any shooting to qualify you to carry. It is stupid I know |

Why one you have to stick to that piece and one allows you to pick and choose? |

I thought it was only your sister or cousin's Second cousin once removed and evil stepmother, that's how I understand the wording of the law in MN. No, seriously, the permit is issued to an individual only, not a person and a firearm with such-and-so a serial number. It's in you posession, you can carry it. |

The reason for the FL drop is due to changing the renewal length from 5 to 7 years. Florida requires witnessed discharge unless you qualify via paperwork... i.e. DD-214. 790.06 states: 7. Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor; A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any of the courses or classes; or an affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught said course or class attesting to the completion of the course or class by the applicant; or a copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms competition shall constitute evidence of qualification under this paragraph; any person who conducts a course pursuant to subparagraph 2., subparagraph 3., or subparagraph 7., or who, as an instructor, attests to the completion of such courses, must maintain records certifying that he or she observed the student safely handle and discharge the firearm; |

The guy who runs the legislature thinks semi-autos are too complicated, so you have to qualify with each one (by make and model, serial numbers are not required), and have it listed on your permit. Revolvers used to be the same way, that was changed last year, semi-autos are next. It's a felony to carry a gun that's not listed on your permit in NV. |

Quoted: In my state the CCW permit applies to the individual, not to a specific weapon. So, yes, you could carry your relatives guns instead of your own. I'd check your state laws just to be sure. This. I don't know of any state that requires a specific gun or guns to be tied to your CCW. The only restriction I know of is in Texas, if you take the test with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver. If you take it with an auto, you can carry either. Doesn't matter who owns the gun. |
|
Quoted:
PA has restrictions on FTF transfers of handguns with some exceptions for family members. The question is "Does PA restrict the "loaning" or temporarytransfer of a handgun to another PA resident to carry concealed onhis/her person". If I recall, in PA you can lend a handgun to a non-family member only if they have a License to Carry Firearms. |

In NY you can only carry a handgun that is registered on your pistol license. In some NY counties it's possible to cross-register a handgun on more than one license. |
