My brother is trying to replace his wood stock on his 870 Remington and needs some help with the forearm. Is there a special tool like a spanner wrench to remove the metal fitting that goes over the tube magazine? I would post a pic but brother is not around. I know it's easy to remove the old forearm but we can't remove the fitting inside the forearm. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Yes.

Get one from Brownell's.

if you cant wait, you can go buy a paint scrapper and just cut it down to fit inside.

I've done it a few times with long needle nose pliers and a crescent wrench....This method requires 2 people but it can be done without screwing anything up.

Dude,

"your brother"

can use needle nose pliers...

Just match the pliers to the notches in the tube... You will have to spread out the pliers to match the notches, but the size of my pliers match the notches perfectly...They work just fine for me...

And they will save you $$$ plus having to wait for shipping...

Edit: Beaten to it.

I knock them on and off with 1/2 a wooden clothespin used like a chisel in one of the slots. It works fine but make very sure when putting it back on that you have the threads matched up correctly before you start knocking on it.
