So if someone wanted to build the ultimate M4gery as close to the current issue ARMY M4 Carbine as possible, what accessories would someone need? Like Optic, BUIS, Light, Rail, etc.
I'm building my first and so far only have a Comp M2 / M68, KAC RAS and I am working on getting a M600 Scout light. I am unsure of which rear sight to use. I'm using Magpul MOE stock and grip. What else besides the OTAL do I need? |

There is nothing "utlimate" about the Army's M4. Anyone who tries to say it is fucking lieing or dumb. Colt doesn't make the very best M4 out there that money can buy. I'm on my third build and want to do a M4gery. I'm not going Colt, I'm just wondering what accessories I should use. |

Who else can legally make the M4 for our military? I am sure it the best money could buy and that why the military bought them. I thought only Colt made the M4 |

You put what you can get on it, and hope it's what you need. |

I was always partial to the M16A2 that I was issued. First shooter on it and shot 39/40 and 40/40 consistently with it with no further adjustments needed.
I'm fairly certain other folks would feel the same way with any rifle that was that accurate for them with only a basic zero. ((ETA)) couple transposed letters.

You never heard of the lowest bidder.
Even the lowest bidder must meet the minimum requirements, so what does that say about the ones not even qualified to bid? |
|
ik, I just got back from a deplyment with a m4
the lower will be plain with a "ribed" 4 position colabsibal buttstock. the upper will be a A4 with with a 14.5 in barrel. NFA rules apply. the front sight will be fixed. add a detachable carrying handle and a rail system on the forend and you have a .mil M4. Add a forward pistol grip and a ACOG/aimpoint/eotech and you have the accesorys the army provides. and fuck spelling, im drunk eta- current M4's have single and 3 round burst |

Couldn't be, it's union labor remember.

((ETA)) couple transposed letters. ![]() I've never served in the military, so my opinion isn't worth much on the subject, but if I had a choice between an M4 or an M16A2/A4, I 'd go with the latter. Better accuracy, much better velocity, and still quite compact, at least compared to the rifles that came before it. I own an M1 Garand and M1903, and my 20-inch AR15 seems almost like a carbine by comparison. I don't understand why the Army is pushing hard to equip everybody with M4s, particularly as the campaign in Afghanistan is ramping up (where long-range firefights are much more likely to occur than in Iraq). JMHO, YMMV, and all required disclaimers. |

Nothing beats it, to this day, with respect to the 25-350 meter pop-up qualification range. Not the M14, not the M1. And not the M4. Most of the A2 mods came from the USMC, from the round hand guards (reduced parts count and felt better) to the heavier barrel (barrels got bent using them as pry bars). The butt stock material was changed to Zytel, length of pull increased and a more non-slip butt pad added. The closed-bottom flash hider only reduces dust signature but on some qualification ranges, it really helps. Some claim it acts as a compensator, I cannot tell (have both). But the real advantage of the A2 over the A1 is sights. Much better long distance sight with crisp post and precise aperture. |

Quoted: Interestingly enough the Army took back the rights to the M4 last week. Not sure why but that kills Colts exclusive rights to build them for uncle sam. I thought only Colt made the M4 OP buy a Colt 6920 and a set of Knights Armament rails, add Eotech, Aimpoint or Acog and BUIS of your choice and you have yourself an issues rifle minus the FA. ETA if you want to go all out buy a Surefire M951 weapon light too. |

Colt tried to sue Bushmaster for trademark infringement for using the "M4" designation. They Lost, court also ruled that "M4" is now a generic term. Colt also sued HK when the HK 416 was know as the HK M4, HK settled out of court. I think Colt makes good guns but come on suing other firearms manufactures because they use the term "M4", if the law was up to them they would be the only manufactures of AR/M-15/16's.

I'll take a Colt over any other AR15 anyday, besides Noveske ![]() Yeah, when I think of POS, DPMS comes to mind.
DPMS is hit or miss on quality. I have had some real junk from them in the past. No reason to chance it when better manufactures are available. |

We used to have fun stuffing it down in guys sleeping bags, then when they'd get n it for the night, they'd feel something furry at their feet, and take a look and freak the fuck out for a few seconds.

"minimum requirements".... The military says "use this steel". That isn't a minimum requirement, that is a demand. You can't use a better steel... You use the spec steel. There is a spec.... not a minimum. I know for one thing Colt doesn't use a cold hammer forged barrel, which is superior. Daniel Defense is all Colt is, and more. They use a CHF barrel Noveske is all Colt is, and more. CHF barrel, and thicker chrome. BCM is everything Colt is, with more attention to detail. Colt doesn't make the best AR out there... They make an AR that is in the spec. |
