I think I have IE 8 (or what ever the most recent one is) and it keeps opening up new 'tabs' to pages that I have never clicked on. When on ARFCOM it will open site sponser pages in a new tab when clicking on a thread. It does this on other sites too. Anyone know how to stop it?

eta- I know other programs like Firefox might not do this but I am fine with IE for what I do other then this thing.

Downloading and installing Firefox only takes 5 minutes, at the most.

yea and moving all the 'favorites' would suck. IE is fine for me, I just want to turn this tab thing off.

The first time Firefox starts it'll ask you if you want to transfer favorites.

Why is IE so easy for people to make viruses for? I always hear about Microsoft having to release 'patches' all the time. I never use them though. I had IE 6 until a month ago.

'Cuz it is the big guy in the neighborhood, aint much point for a malevolent minded moron to go after competitors with such a smaller market share...

Plus microsoft can be a lumbering giant at times.

Pretty much the same reasons the koolaid kids/mac-drinkers can say that they dont get viruses...

I have an older computer and the new IE runs very, very slow. It takes forever to start up but firefox starts really quick.

The add-ons for firefox makes it even better.

And activeX.  Basically IE runs a script that automatically downloads and installs software.  It's very easy for them to write a confusing "Install for super awesome access to this site" dialog box.

As a professional webdesigner I started using Firefox about two years ago and I have regrets not starting sooner.
Too often Explorer crashed, especially when there is only a bit more than only text and images.

So I run Firefox now and I make sure that all my websites run in Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome etc...

I hear a lot of complaints from customers, friends, and especially my girlfriend who runs IE at her work and often at her own pc.
So I installed Firefox on her pc and almost all of the problems have disappeared.
It seems that IE is really lacking in professionality these days and Firefox 3.5 is very very fast.
Easy to install too and a lot more helpfull gadgets. I believe it's much more secure also, which can be important.

My advice would be, install Firefox and you will probably not go back to IE ever again...

You know what I find insulting?

When IE crashes, and they ask is you want to report it.

This must happen about a billion times/day, many of which are "reported". If MS can't fix their problems yet, then they're hopeless. Don't insult my intelligence by trying to make me believe that my reporting it will help solve any problems.

Anyway. Use FireFox, or better yet, buy a Mac.

I did not like the first few versions of Firefox, AT ALL!

But for the last few years, I can't stand to use anything else.
Just hearing "IE" makes me cringe.

Firefox absolutely kicks ass.

yet people here actually complain that Firefox has updates to fix things.
