It's not 'comming' it's coming.

Come = coming.

Run - running.

Don't double the consonant when it's followed by a vowel.   I bet Win 7 has a great spellchecker!

I ran 7 in a VM on Fusion.  It ran pretty well, except that it had noticeably more overhead than an XP VM.   I think 7 will be MUCH better than Vista.

Did you try to run an application in XP mode while running as a VM?

We were trying to count the levels of hardware abstraction and gave up somewhere around virtual threading...

Win 7 is a lot of things but "lightweight" it isn't.

Dude, Windows 7 is just Vista with some features disabled/removed and a new taskbar (aka OS X app doc ripoff).  Win 7's real advantage is that 3rd party software/driver support has caught up.

Yup.  Early on there was talk of using a modular kernel (which would have rocked) but it just would have taken too long.  The next revision will probably have it, along with the relational filesystem.

I read an article around the release time of Vista, and it stated that Vista was to be the last OS released under the supervision of Jim Allchin.  After Vista, release schedule were to be ramped up to 18-24 months.

Win 8 in March 2011?

for the record, I have yet to install the Win 7 beta, and have not even provided support to anyone on Vista

I am going to stick with XP until I have to upgrade. Every time MS introduces new versions, they also introduce a bunch of bugs. As the old computer axiom goes, always get even numbered versions and updates of software, especially anything from MS. I am still using MS IE vers 7, even MS is begging me to update to vers 8.

Been running 7 for, well, 7 months now ( I cheated and DLed the unofficial RC; 7077 which is 7100, i.e. RC version).

I LOVE IT! Hate Vista, but 7 is just vista w/ all the BS trimmed out of it...some cool new features as well.

It has been rock solid and my games have been flawless.

I've been running Win7 RC for a while now, and it's working just fine for me. I was running Vista for almost a year before that without any trouble.

With every OS release there are always guys who want the old version. Back when XP came out all of the users I delt with were with the classic Windows 2000-style interface. Having an OS run for 6 years without a new version isn't normal. It used to be about 2 years between versions. Those who are stuck in there ways insist on using the old version.

IMO, the majority of the buzz (positive and negative) about Vista and Win 7 consists of people simply repeating what they've heard––be it "Vista is the sUXxorZ!" or "Win 7 is mo' betta!".

Vista has been fine for me for the most part over the last few years––just a couple of 3rd-party driver problems.

I have two nearly-identical Acer netbooks (1.6Ghz Atom CPU, 1.5-2GB RAM)––one is running Vista Ultimate and the other is running Win 7 RC.  On both, I have nearly all of the "pretty' features turned off.  They both run fine. In my informal tests, they both perform about the same (waking up, opening apps, playing videos, etc.).  In fact, I don't find that Vista is significantly slower for everyday tasks than XP (awaking from sleep, office apps, internet)––even on this little netbook––and Vista / Win7 have supposedly better power mgmt than XP.

Some areas are noticeably easier to navigate in Win 7 (networking, UAC, etc.).

That's not a Microsoft problem, that's a Cisco problem. They refuse to release a 64-bit IPSec client for any version of Windows. I bitched at them about it when I was @ Cisco Live this year.
