Cannibalism shock as Congo atrocities revealed
Militiamen grilled bodies on a spit and boiled two girls alive as their mother watched, UN peacekeepers have charged.

Cannibalism has been added to a list of atrocities allegedly carried
out by one of the tribal groups fighting in the north-east of the
Democratic Republic of the Congo. The area is suffering the world's
worst current humanitarian crisis, with a death toll outstripping that
in Sudan's strife-torn Darfur region, UN emergency relief co-ordinator
Jan Egeland said on Wednesday.

"In terms of the human lives lost . . . this is the greatest
humanitarian crisis in the world today and it is beyond belief that the
world is not paying more attention," he said.

Militiamen have kidnapped hundreds of civilians from rival ethnic
groups, decapitating some, torturing others and forcing the rest to
work as porters or sex slaves, according to a UN report released this
week summarising testimony from witnesses. "Vital organs were said to
have been cut off and used as magic charms. There were also reports
that (ethnic) Hema children were thrown onto arrows stuck into the
ground," it said.

Congo became a battleground for six nations during a 1998-2002 war that
killed 50,000 people directly and another 3 million through
strife-induced hunger and disease. But sporadic fighting continues in
the lawless north-east.

Zainabo Alfani told UN investigators she was forced to watch rebels kill and eat two of her children in June 2003.

The report said: "In one corner, there was already cooked flesh from
bodies and two bodies being grilled on a barbecue and, at the same
time, they prepared her two little girls, putting them alive in two big
pots filled with boiling water and oil."

The new International Court of Justice in The Hague, in the
Netherlands, said this week its first cases will deal with war crimes
committed in eastern Congo.

man I read that story,  I am a religious and moral man and think murdering someone would doom me to hell,  but if someone took my little girls and cooked them alive,  I'd spend every waking minute of my life, and every red cent I had tracking them down and killing them slowly.

I wouldn't care if I went to hell, jail, whatever.  I'd find them and kill them and their families,  any way I could.  that is the saddest story ever.  Africa to me seems to be an enormous crap hole. I can't help but think that maybe if those people were armed,  they would quit getting taken over by damn warlords and dictators.

People don't realize how thin the veil is between the relatively peaceful, orderly society we take for granted and the darker side.

When utility service is interrupted and the store shelves are stripped bare we'll see what our neighbors are really like.

If there is a merciful and righteous god...and I find it hard to see how with such things happening...he would not punish you for what you say you would do....

Although Africa has always had uncilivilied natives , many whom engaged in cannabalism, Africa really started going down hill when black communists and thugs started killing the white people in Rhodesia, South Africa etc..the world stood by , including the US, and allowed all this to happen..Many African countries were settled and had good economies until the natives took over again..Now things are as they always were..Where's Tarzan when you need him.. ?

Not that I think they wont eat someone in the Congo.  They sure do.

You don't stick a kid or anything other than a lobster in boiling water alive.  I am not trying to be gross or mean, just logical.  Putting a human in boiling water leads them to void bowels and bladder when they die.  You would ruin the soup.  Again, not joking, just trying to be logical.

They may have been learning to be good cannibals.  That wouldn't surprise me.  But the story is fishy.
