Every day I come to GD, there are lots of funny, serious, political, etc threads that I enjoy reading very much. Then there are threads that are just blatant jabs at anyone who is not part of a particular group. They poke, prod, and stir the pot, and then get offended when they run up against someone who doesn't agree with them or their views. They call their opposition self-centered, because of a difference in viewpoint. Each and every time one of these threads occur, there are about 9-13 pages of the same garbage. Nobody is going to change their opinions, nobody is going to give an inch. The argument is so over and done, it makes 9mm V. .45 look like an amateur attempt at trolling. To my fellow atheists, I implore you to stick your nose up at any of the veiled attempts to cause any more disruption in our days. Do not click threads that are about religion. Do not respond to them. I know it is VERY hard. If we stop letting them have what they want (and that is to engage us in discussion so that we might somehow change our viewpoints), then they will stop trying. We all know that if we wanted to discuss religion, there is a forum just for that. I am sure that you, my brothers, are very tired of the same stuff. We must take the high road and stop getting drug down into the mud. They will not relent, nor will they change their views. They are supposed to "evangelize" us. I won't be converted. In fact, the harder that they try, the more that I will resist it. If we don't respond to the bait, then they cannot drag us into an argument that neither side can win. |

It's a simple solution, really. Don't read them. If you actually read the post, that was exactly the point. The idea is that if all of us stayed out of them, they would go away as they are intended to stir the pot. If the pot doesn't get stirred, then they become pointless. CLUE 1: Don't click on threads you don't like CLUE 2: If you end up in one of those threads, hit the backspace key as many times as it takes to remove you from someone else's right to free speech. CLUE 3: See CLUE 1 or CLUE 2 Repeat as often as necessary. |

Think what you want, but let me do the same. I'm not saying that the posters of said threads should stop talking about their beliefs. What I am trying to do is get a segment to STOP reading/responding to them. That is quite different. I am trying to get them to exercise their freedom to ignore, NOT trying to trample the freedom of speech of anyone. |
