Al Franken? WTF?

How did he get elected? (I realize it was very close and he stole the election but how could it have been so close?)

I thought most of Minnesota was comprised of rural folks who maybe had some basic American values.

Who voted for him?

Did they vote as some kind of "joke"?

I am curious and appreciate  your input.

We had Jesse Ventura as a Govenor so that should answer all your questions.   Were overrun with liberals up here.

Thanks for the reply!

But except for Minneapolis/St Paul where are all the libs?

I was under the (false, I guess) impression that there were enough down to earth, rural  folks to override the libs.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) there are a large # of Democratic vorters on the Iron Range.

This election is a complete joke.

I did my part to with no luck and am personally very sorry and embarassed for my state.

Remember, Norm is viewed by many of people as an East Coaster despite his tenure in our state.  Most of the time you can still count on the range to vote blue simply because of the old union boys that remember the true DFL.  That being said, the current Minnesota dems are no where near the DFL of the olden days.  Fortunately the younger generations are starting to see that and the vote is very slowly shifting.  Now we come to the larger and more difficult problem;  the universities.

Our universities are great places, full of knowledge and wonderful people.  Unfortunately full of biased libtards.  Luckily I was blessed with a level headed advisor throughout my college career who encouraged me to come up with logical arguments and not become a lemming.  Which is shocking because I graduated from the political science department.

The bottom line here is that if we don't encourage college students to stick to the values they were raised with they will be shouted down and liberalized while trying to get a "well-rounded" education.

Someday hopefully things will be better.

I did Not vote for Franken I voted for Colemen.
Hard to win an election when you don't have voting standards between counties around the state.
In the recound some counties used the totals from the voting machines and other counties used the totals from the ballets. In every case there was a difference between the two and the one that favored Franken was used.  It was a TOTAL fix.

There was a third party candidate that got something like 15% or maybe 20% of the vote.

That really worked out well.

I told Coleman if he voted for that stimulus crap that he would not get my vote.

I kept my word and voted for the third party guy.

Another thing to remember when the steel mills shut down in Gary IN. huge influxes of people moved here and depend on MN glorious "benefits" package. In addition there are unknow # of "undocumented workers" and a large Samaolian population that tend to vote that direction.

Oh yeah, we also have quite a few loons.

A mentality like that could be part of the problem. While you are trying to make a statement some dipshit gets elected to the Senate.

A fool for standing by my word?  From what position do you make your comment? Where do you take a stand? At what point do you say no more of this not listening to your base? If calling me a fool is the best you offer then STFU.

If Coleman was so stupid as to side with the Dems on that crap then I doubt he would have done much for the Republican causes on anything else.

Well, most of the college kids voted at least twice, once in their home districts, and once where they attend school.  I overheard a lot of that at school last november.  In addition, some of them were going district to district and "vouching" for each other, that they did indeed live in the district and were therefore allowed to vote there.

Additionally, the recount was completely fucked.  Districts that were originally for Coleman submitted adjusted numbers, with the adjustments almost invariably favoring Franken.  Several districts up here had adjusted numbers with hundreds of extra votes for Franken, but almost no deviation in the Obama/McCain numbers.

Many districts submitted adjusted numbers that included more votes than voters.  Usually the discrepancy was equal to the number of votes ballots that were incorrectly marked and set aside when a replacement ballot was requested.  As I understand it the judges and people conducting the recount refused to take this into consideration.

It was outright election fraud, plain and simple.

The way I see it (and from the poll numbers quite a few others too) people here need to see how bad it will get so that they can wake the fuck up and take this country back.

If pain now is what we need to make things better now then so be it.

I agree

Plus I don't think the GOP should not get free votes.

By the way whilst it seems that the large metros areas are generally more "red" then the rest of the state, with the exception of the south west corner

There is the root of the problem.  We have the same phenomenon here in Montana.  All but two counties generally vote R.  The two that go D do so for completely different reasons.  Missoula votes lib because of the university full of eco hippies, and Butte because of the union miners, who I'm sure are despised by the eco hippies and vice-versa.

I've already stopped telling people I'm from Minnesota.
