Maybe some of the old franchise/catalog stores...if they even still exist.

Sears corporate stores stopped with firearms back in mid-late 80s

I wondered the same thing awhile back when I got to shoot the Sears robbuck 30 06 bolt rifle. It was in good shape.

Love the JC Higgins brand, most of them were made by major US based manufacturers. The old High Standards went out of business because they were one of the biggest supplier of firearms to Sears.

Kmart who bought Sears or versa vice got out of guns  last August. My wife works there and they just got a call one day to box them up and back they went. They had some clearance a few weeks previous and I snagged a few of of them.
She said the reason was not anti anything......it took three employees to transact the sale properly and an hour or so of time for something they made maybe $30-$40 on.Sears quit selling them many moons ago.Kmart still sells ammo however but high priced like most now. They do run a shotgun shell sale each fall and I always stock up on the game loads which last time were around three bucks a box.

I know a few people high up in walmart, and there has been talk of removing firarms from certain stores over the last year or so. Nothing has happened yet and I was told  they are rethinking that due to the solid money maker it is right now.

Lots of Walmarts got out of the firearm business.  Around here a majority of them don't sell guns.  Still sell ammo and accessories, but no guns.  My guess is they just don't make enough money on them, use the floor space for more profitable lines.

I remember seeing a reprint of a Sears Roebuck catalog from 190-something with guns rated by how many pine boards their bullets would go through-it sure was a lot for .45-70, or as it was listed, .45-70 Government.

I still have a Sears Ted Williams 12 gauge pump from about 1981 or so.  I loaned it to my nephew a couple of years ago, I need to get that back.

Went into a walmart in KY this past weekend and they had some ammo (not much) but they didnt carry any firearms, My walmart here carries rifles and shotties, They used to carry pistols, Did all walmarts discontinue selling pistols or was this a regional thing??? Come to think of it, I guess its been about 10 or 12 yrs ago since they sold a pistol....
