I want to find WWII records for a vet. I want to know when they served, what medals they recieved etc. Is there such a place?

Look up freedom of information act.  I think u can send in a request for the servicemans info.

Yep. They are still dealing with the fire they had back in the 1970's. They are still reconstructing records. There was a documentary about it a few years ago.
Easiest way to get  copies of service records, is have the vet fill out the request himself. If they are dead, family members can request it. VA has a section at their
web site that covers those kinds of requests.

Do what I did......contact your US Rep or Senators office, and have them look into it. I got my grandfathers records and medals that way, and in a fairly quick manner, too.
