Anyone have any decent luck out of a string trimmer that costs under $100?  I guess I am in the market.

No, but if you want a good one that is fairly inexpensive as far as "good ones" go, try an Echo.

Save your money and get a real one.

Get the speed feed and you will thank me later.

Try and find a used Echo for around $100.  I just bought a new 225 the other day and love it.  I've used several others in the past and this one with the U-Turn head is the cats meow.

I have a $99 Troy-built from Lowes. I have only used it one season, but haven't had any issues with it.

Spend extra and get a Stihl.  They are made in America by well paid Americans down in Virginia Beach.  The are built to last and mine have always treated me very well.  I'm pretty sure one can be had for $150-$175.

Or you could spend $100 on a Chinese made Walmart string trimmer and replace it every few years and help fund China's development of a blue water navy.  Your choice I guess.

For $100 you'll have to go used to get anything decent. Whatever you do, DO NOT get a curved shaft....the most uncomfortable power tool you will ever use.

Get a stihl FS90

Or, better yet, an FS250r-40cc engine powered trimmer.

A BEAST. Tears through anything and will rip the balls off a charging bull

Echo or Stihl either one will be money well spent.

I needed one when I bought my house in 2003.  Found a remanufactured Echo, returned after use to the store at Home Depot.  $25 later and I brought it home.

Runs like a champ and starts every time.
