you know in movies, where they shoot M16s...

how do they do it without BFAs? are all the shots added in post-production or what?

I noticed in some movies, like predator, if you look at the muzzle of Arnolds rifle, there is a little tiny barrell that protrudes up to the end of the compensator.  I think they use different types of blank ammo for movie guns.  Not sure though, but I notice that little tiny barrel in alot of movie rifles.

Also, I have seen for sale "movie guns" that are chambered for a different cal. than regular military weapons that require the muzzle attachment to cycle on blanks.

I think it's a good question.

The older way of doing it is to take a piece of 5.56 brass, cut it off at the groove in the rim, pop out the primer, put that little plug over the end of the barrel and then screw the flash hider down on top of it.

Today, most firearms are actually done with replicas that fire pyrotechnic charges or propane blurps (because using real guns is expensive and complicated... bureaucracy) .  Muzzle flash is added digitally in post production, and the sound is always dubbed anyways.

I'm not sure but I would think there is an internal attachement that is inserted into the barrel... or that there is a specialized barrel altogether. I've often wondered this myself.

I always thought that it was a small diameter barrel that provided enough back pressure for the weapon to cycle and to give the kick ass muzzleflash that would suck if you were in a real fight in a dark place/at night.

Who knows but the muzzle flash from Arnold M203 from Predator was fucking insanely awesome
