My moms boyfriend/common law husband/whatever does construction work and has no work. She owes me money so I arranged to have him come paint parts of the house so he can work off her debt, what is a fair wage?
I tired buying slaves from those guys who have them cleaning highways, they didnt seem interested in selling |
| Just remember that cash in hand compensation is automatically worth ~25% more than a "real job." When I need some hard work done on the cheap I drive down to the local Home Depot early in the morning. There's usually plenty of willing day laborers. It does help to know a little spanish. |

I thought traditional GA currency was beer and cigs. Single story home...2 suit cases and 6 packs of smokes. Two-story...5 suit cases and a carton of smokes... ![]() I might could bargin a better deal with a 30pack of Bud and a carton of cigs... but then I'd have to get the money from her |

Just because they are day laborers of Mexican descent you automatically assume they're illegals???
I don't really hire from the Home Depot parking lot. Fortunately, the infestation isn't that bad (yet) here in central PA. I have enough friends and relatives that will work for food/beer and the knowledge that I would be happy to help them out with a home improvement project should they ask. Serious answer: Since you're doing this as a favor, I think $10/hour cash is fair; especially if he is collecting unemployment. I'd throw in a little extra (cash or food) if he turns out to be a hard worker. If he is a slacker I'd send him home. |

I go for the best option, also if they are illegal they dont count as people so you dont even have to feel bad about doing it. |
