I'm intrigued. I've heard great things from a few friends. Thinking about cooking some up tomorrow. Anyone a fan?

I saw these on Bizarre Foods the other day, he said they were really good but he also likes most stuff.  I bet they are good just like the deep fried green beans at TGI Fridays.

A local cajun restaurant serves them, and I would happily cut your throat for a platefull.

With a side of good mustard.  My, that is good eats.

Now the dill spears, wrapped with bacon, then skewered, battered and deep fried?  Fucking massive win.

Everything is better when fried.

Fried pickles have been around since at least the 70's as far as I know. Why are you acting like it's something new?

Where did I say it is new?

You realize there is a difference between something being new to me and something being new, right?

Are we not allowed to make threads about old things?

Take pickle spears (I like em better as spears)

Dry them as well as you can, dredge in a regular beer batter and deep fry until golden brown and delicious.

Dip in ranch.

Just seems a bit silly to me. It's like making a thread saying that a few friend have told you wonderful things about beer and wondering if anyone else has ever tried it. Now if you had simply asked for fried pickle recipes that would be different.

Place i used to work at had them on the menu. There was one waitress who ate them after every shift. One day she pissed off the guy running pantry and he swapped them out with celery. Under the beer batter you couldnt tell. Only problem was the celery acted like a sponge and soaked up the oil. First bite and she gets covered with fryer oil (not hot, just funny to watch).

Oh yeah, and i had them the first day i worked at the place, they blew dog. But these were spears not slices.

Yeah, because fried pickles are as common as beer.

sonic's pickle-o's were the best ever.  you just cant find any as good as them now.  i noticed them on the menu at a casino, so i tried them; they were pretty peppery, but good.

I make them and my wife and kids eat them as fast as I can fry them.  I am not a big fan of pickles, deep fried or not, so I just think they are OK.  They are really salty and go good with beer, but I'm not crazy about them.

Had one at Pickles Pub in Baltimore (across from Oriole Park). Not sliced but whole pickels. They were not great.

Wouldn't the pickles me mushy and soft ?

If they are still crisp after frying, I could probably eat a metric shit ton of them.

They're awesome if they're done right.  I like to use the Claussen sandwich slices.  Batter them in some light cajun catfish batter.  Dip in ranch dressing.

I hit the BBQ joint (can't recall the name) in the atrium area where the terminals connect.

Sounds like I need to check out my local Sonic and see if they carry them.

OKAY!!! I glad I'm not the only one who schedules flight around food.  I Iove Papadeaux's catifsh and connect in Bush International in Houston during flights at luch time.  I always make sure I have enough time between flights to eat there.

I had deep fried pickles about a month ago in Tullahoma, TN for the first time, not a fav but not bad.

If done properly they are fantastic.  My favorite are the slices done in a light batter.  A tempura batter is the best.  The best I have had is at the Island Cow on Sanibel Island, Florida.  I was there last week with my wife and will be there again in 2 weeks with the kids.  If I make them at home, I whip up a chipotle/ranch dressing for dipping.  Together with a few cold beers and you got yourself a hell of a treat.
