| What is inside what you ship? I'm just kinda curious since guns have to be shipped to ffl when buying a new one and you have to pay hazmat fees for shipping primers and gun powder. I'm not advocating it, but what keeps people from just shipping that stuff in normal mail? Do they have x-rays machines and chemical sniffers there to check compliance? |

Quoted: Quoted: Do they have x-rays machines and chemical sniffers there to check compliance? In this post 9/11 world, what do you think they would have? Hell, Obama is willing to shake hands and trust Kim Jong Ill, Achmadinajad and Putin, why would he need to x-ray his own citizen's packages? Oh yea, for the same reason he'll let the Ayatollahs have a nuclear weapon but won't trust Annapolis grads with ceremonial sabers. I keep forgetting who we're dealing with here. |

I worked at a processing facility a few years ago and there's technically nothing that would catch you if you shipped something you shouldn't. There's no dogs, no xray scanners, no random searches. What does happen is packages break open, then if you shipped something prohibited in the DMM you'd probably be in a world of trouble.
There is something called target mail. Target mail is mail suspect of being dangerous. Its more of trying to stop mail bombings and bio attacks, where mail gets segregated because of having something like two or more of "being 1lb or more, handwritten, spelling mistakes, to 'CEO' or other title of job instead of a persons name, being from another country, etc..." |

You can send knives, since all my ordered knives and swords came this way I'd say it's ok,muzzle loaders (this can be fun, some postmasters will say no-but it IS legal),long guns ether to an FFL or the factory.
Now we come to the fun part-ammo,powder,primers-I say fun because I recently sold some ammo and since I knew USPS says that's a no-no I went UPS since everybody said that's the way to go.......... Well the form at the local UPS said "No ammo, expolsives etc." well shit
Basically you are on your own with this I just try to muddle through it everyday if I send something. |

Considering that I just got a visit from the big brown santa sled delivering a box clearly labeled ORM-D "Small Arms Cartridges"... |

I did some surveying work at a large regional PO and had to walk the length of the building to sign in and out at some office (huge PITA).
There was a huge floor of machines that were mostly sorting devices but a whole lot of the stuff there also looked like various types of scaners for packages. I also can't believe they have the ability to screen everything but assuming they won't seems like a hell of a risk. Once they found something out it isn't like they are going to let it slide with a "whoops I screwed up" excuse |

i had a guy on gun broker send me a half case of wolf mc in a flat rate box no i did not know it was happening i was shocked when it arrived ![]() IMO Post office is more concerned with their own employees stealing mail than with what goes through the mail system. It was my understanding that other than workers looking out for target mail, the only screening of packages is done at the customer service counter. If you've ever been inside a facility you know what i mean. There's fully enclosed catwalks throughout the whole building, with one way glass lookouts every 10 feet or so. This is on top of the surveillance system with the hanging globe cameras like walmart canvassing the building. One guy I was talking to at the facility was there when it was built and he said that's the only time "that room" as we called it was visible. He said it had a bank of tv screens, probably 20 screens, with racks of electronics he assumed was recording equipment. He said every once in a while they'll see a federal vehicle, the postal inspectors, go in a back entrance that leads to that room and the catwalk system. The only time most everyone had ever seen the inspectors was when they came out of the room with a team of police officers and arrested someone for stealing prescription medicine from the mailstream. |
