Anybody have any experience with this? It keeps me awake during the overnight shift and gives me a nice nicotine fix but I can't do this forever.
How long did the cravings last?

About two days of sleeplessness, nervousness and irritability....then it's all gravy.  The best thing I ever quit was Copenhagen....I can't even stand the taste now.

Oh god, the cravings get a little less intense but in 3 months mine never went away completely. I don't know if I just didn't give it enough time or if they just never go away.

I've heard it can be worse than cigarettes. Which I quit in favor of swisher sweets, which I quit in favor of dip.

My wife & kids are bugging me and I still have all my teeth & gums intact so I'd like to quit while I'm ahead.

How long have you been dipping?

5 years now. 3 years inhaling Swishers like it was my last breath, and 15 years smoking butts.

The killer of it- I'm a g'damn respiratory therapist.

Every time I quit was completely opposite. I would sleep all the time and only be able to stay awake a few hours. Sleeping was easier than coping with the cravings.

Been dipping for 15 years... I have quit several times... very difficult.
The longest I went was for 10 months.
There is no easy way to do it and the craving never goes away

That's exactly how I am when I try to quit. I can sleep 20-25 hours if I'm not dipping, then I'll get up, eat, suffer for a few hours and make myself go back to sleep.

Took me years to quit, but now, I can't even stand the smell of it.  I'll admit, it was pretty damn hard, but I did it (changing your desktop wallpaper to a cancerous mouth picture helped).

took me years as well...  quit and started back up like 4 times...  the whole thing is a process...

this last time i was super successful ... been "clean" for almost 2 years and no chance of ever going back...    my doc prescribed me that chantix... that shit WORKS...  i thankfully didnt have any of the negative side effects ...  and just one day up and quit..  its really hard to explain how it works... but it does...

i WAS chewing 2 cans of copenhagen longcut a day... here in NY.. thats about 12 bux a day..  12 X 30 = $360...  i stashed all that money away and thast how i bought alot of my toys..

Expierences of me and my friends say it will be easy when you are ready and impossible otherwise.......

It seems like all of us had tried at one point or another......or twenty and failed.  Then it seems like there is just a day when you wake up and say 'fuck it' and never go back.....

Gonna find out tomorrow: down to last can.

Been in an area w/o my brand, Skoal Straight covering down, and I don't really care for it.

Also, noticed that for whatever reason, this particular brand interacts uniquely with the bacteria in my mouth.

My breath smells bad enough that it grosses me out, been brushing/flossing OCD for the past few weeks.

My mouth funk has always been a sensitive/embarrassing thing for me (yeah, and then I start dipping, genius), and it really gets to me, so I'm done.

Besides, my wife graduates in July, she doesn't care about standard presents like shiny things or cashmere, so I think walking away from cancer and rotten mouth will work nicely.

God help me, it's gonna be a bear...

You just need the right motivation.

Have them do an x-ray of your back.....

I dipped for close to 20 years.  Quit a few times for a few months each.

Finally went to see doc for lower back pain (yes this is relevant) about a year ago.  One of the worse things for my back, your back or anyones is nicotine.  My doc explained the issues nicotine causes.   As I walked out of the docs office that day I dropped my can of Skoal in the trash.  Haven't taken another dip since.   Daily doses of back pain remind of why I quit if I have any craving.  Actually I haven't had any cravings to speak of.

If that isn't motivating, do you have kids?  A wife?  Do you like your face when you look in the mirror?

As long was you let your weak will overpower your common sense... or your face falls off after decades of dipping.

probably forever. It all depends on the person.  I quit smoking 2 weeks ago. I also used dip, chew, snus.  I know, I like them all.  Anyway, I get a craving about once a day and it's for either dip or smokes. I just have to tell myself I don't want it.  I have a kid on the way so that's kind of my incentive. I hope things go well for you.

BTW, I quit cold turkey.

ETA
Smoked for 10 years
Used Dip for 7-8 off an on

I dipped Copenhagen for 20 years, quit cold turkey and it took years for the cravings to stop, gained 20 pounds too.  I had to stop drinking to quit chewing, otherwise I'd beg or buy a chew after a couple of beers.  Now I find it disgusting and a waste of money, not to mention bad for you.  Good luck!

Cravings will come and go for some time but the intensitiy will subside. You're at the hard part now and it gets easier as days pass.

Stay busy and remember why you don't want to start again...

I quit 13 years ago...

Try Zyban, but you still have to go through a few days of nic-fits. You get through the first few days, you just stop thinking about it, a two month supply gets you "out of the woods".

You won't ever really stop thinking about it, my father quite chewin'/dippin' over 30 years ago and he still get cravings once in awhile.

I've quite a few times, but always get back into it. But Zyban always helped the me get throught the first few months the best.

Ive dipped for about 10 years but it never got out of control for me. At my "peak" I will go through a tin every 10 days (1 or 2 dips a day) just to take the edge off of everyday life.

I have been able to cut out almost every other bad vice out of my life for a sustained period of time (fast food, soda etc) but I dont think I will ever be able to stop chewing unless it becomes a medical neccesity.

The way I look at it is that if I keep it in moderation, Ill be ok.

Quit years ago after over five years.  The craving keeps coming back.
