When you have it all snapped up the sides and worn, there are two little peices of gutted 550 cord afixed to the front inside surface, next to grommits. What are these for????

Cant figure out how you would convert it to a usable shelter with it, or any useful purpose other than possibly rolling it up inside-out.

Hive mind, and those who have been around far longer than my meager 5 years.

Tie it around yourself because the poncho is so baggy?

I think you are talking about the little drip strings.  They are to hang down from the grommet when you set up the shelter and water will wick and drip down the string and not run down the inside of the poncho.

There are two little grommets inside the poncho, not through the poncho but on little tabs, with a piece of 550 cord looped through the two.
