Does anyone else's mouse wheel (or buttons) ever become impacted with a generous amount of sticky shit?

No, I do not eat in front of my computer! I generally like to keep it clean. I work with my computer(s) far too often to let them go down to something as silly as getting dirty. However, I apparently use my main computer so often that my sweat drips into the mouse wheel. Dust then seems to be attracted to it. After a few months it becomes noticeable. By six months I can no longer move the wheel at all! I just got done doing a complete detail strip of my mouse to clean out the crud. It was pretty bad.

Quit spooging on the mouse.

I've been using the same mouse for several years now and I have never had the problem you described.

Try rubbing alcohol on it.  I have to drip some on my mini roller ball every now and then to get it to work right.

I have also used my stuff so much now that I have started to wear the plastic off the surface of the mouse and keyboard. It might be getting time for a new one. The trouble is that I really like my present setup but it is no longer made!

I guess when I really need a new mouse I could always just have a new one fabricated to meet the exact specs as my old one.

No, I tried that but it didn't help. You really just need to take the thing apart and clean it properly. Computer hardware behaves more like a 1911 than a Glock. You cannot just wipe it down and put it away. You've got to take it apart and really clean it well. Otherwise it will cease to function properly!
