I found a Blue-Point Siamese about a year ago, and he kind of "adopted" me. Well he's usually not particularly friendly, although he has been warming up. But recently, he's become very clingy. He'll jump into my bed and curl up on my chest. He follows me every where, and when ever I sit down he has to at least have his front paws rested on my leg.

He's not expressed any other concerning signs, but I'm wondering if this could mean he feels ill, or if it's just some affection that he never displayed before? He's about 2 according to the vet.

Doesn't seem all that unusual.

Pretty much means the cat has fully 'claimed' you as part of it's territory.

He has become comfortable with you, enjoy it.

Did you used to have a goldfish?

thanks for the replies.

No I didn't have a goldfish

I was just concerned because this is a complete 180 compared to him before. He was really quite mean prior to this recent display.

My friend's two Siamese cats behaved the exact same way when she got them.

Standoff-ish at first, then became super affectionate.

They turned out to be really nice cats.

I've read that about Siamese. It's just so odd, like another cat took over him. One day "Growl-bite-swat-growl-run" then I walk in the door last week and it's like I'm his new best friend.

I have a male Flame-Point Siamese that's almost 10 years old - he's been doing the same to me since he was about 2-3 years old.

I have heard of cats becoming very snuggly when they know they are about to pass on but if your cat has not been ill prior to this I don't think he is at death's door.

No, other than the complete change in personality, he's still cleaning/running/playing with the other cat. But I wanted to get some input before asking the vet. Because every time I ask the vet anything, he tells me the world is coming to an end and I need to prepare my wallet for inspection.

As cats go, Siamese have "personality".

Not to reopen old wounds, but you may want to PM swindle on this.  He recently had a cat that passed on and prior to its death it became overbearingly cuddly with him.  Perhaps he can shed some light from personal experience for ya.

One of mine did the same exact thing.  Friend gave it to me after her husband found it riding in the engine bay of the car on the way to work!    She was the nastiest feline.  Wouldn't even let you pet her without throwing a hissy fit (now I know where the phrase originates!).  Then one night she jumped up on the bed next to me and that's where I can count on her to be every night.  Eventually she lost her desire to be a bitch and actually enjoys getting pet.

I (as in my gf) adopted two cats roughly a year ago. The one I "picked" is a nice little guy, always in a good mood. The one my gf picked is a certified killer straight bad-ass that's human-aggressive. He was the meanest fucker ever. He would stand his ground at me and growl at me like he thought he could take me. This pissed me off. Sometimes he would attack me like a rabid dog. He would randomly try to claw my eyes out, almost blinded me once and has drawn blood countless times. I have literally drawn-down on him four times with the intention to send him to feline hell. Luckily my gf was there each time or the bastard would be dead.

But now, after some time, we seem to be friends. I think he's realized that this town is big enough for the both of us. He follows me around, rolls over on his back when I come home from work, tries to jump in the shower with me, hell he even gives me some company while I'm taking a shit. If that's not friendship, I don't know what is.

But I still don't trust him. Watch him closely, and start carrying in your house if you don't already.

Glad that worked out.  My mom used to have a cat that was possessed by the devil himself.  This cat wouldn't just hiss and bite if I got close; the bitch would lie in wait and attack.  She ruined a $100 pair of dress shoes trying to bite through them.  She also bit my hand once between the index finger and the thumb....went all the way through.  I hated that cat.  She got out of mom's house one day and was never seen again.  I have fond thoughts of that bitch hiss and swiping at a something like a Pit Bull and then getting her just desserts

See my subsequent post.  Similar experience with my mother's cat.  That cat hated me, and the feeling was mutual.

Sounds like my cat.

He sounds like a nice cat, take him to the vet.  Any change from established behavior could be a sign of illness.  Or he may just have warmed up to you. Get him a check up, just to be sure.

The siamese I've known kind of default to clingy.  Seems like he might've finally come around.  They're generally very intelligent cats, maybe he realized he's got the good life

We've had the same with my cat now.  She wasn't too gregarious and spent most of her time hiding, but in the last few years she's claimed me as her own and won't leave me alone most of the time.

The other thing is that cats train people as much as people train cats. Maybe he finally got you where he wants you

ETA- one other option.. If you have other animals, he may be making a play for alpha.  Friend of mine had a siamese that we feared something was wrong with.. It was just the most pliable cat in the world.  You could do anything with him.  We figured he was brain damaged somehow actually.  Turned out that no.. He was just the Head Cat.  He proved his fearlessness to the other cats by letting us flop him around like a teddy bear.  When people weren't around, he ruled with an iron paw

I have a lavender Siamese and he is the same way. He follows me everywhere like a puppy, very affectionate and loves to play, but can be needy at times. Best cat I've ever had.

So true.

Siamese are extremely intelligent.  And very sensitive and loyal.

They are good damn cats.
