So tickets for a concert I wanted to go to went on sale today at 10 am.  I was on ticketmaster right at 10, and wasn't even able to get tickets.  Sold out in like a minute.

All these ticket scalping ebay fucks really piss me off.  They don't give a damn about going to the concert, they just want to buy up as many tickets as they can, sell out the show, then sell the tickets for 3x face value.  They're already on ebay for $200-300, 10 minutes after they went on sale.

So now I can't go see a band I love because a bunch of these assholes all over the country buy up tickets to concerts they never planned to attend.  Fuck them.

Ticket scalping and buying up ammo at wal mart and selling again at the gun shop for three times as much reminds me a lot of practices at a union shop. The next thing coming down the pipeline will be auctions when the tickets go on sale.

That way the artist and venue will extract maximum value from the fans and cut the scalpers out of the loop. Will you be happy them?

When I get famous and my band starts touring arenas, I'll put a policy that tickets sold must have the buyer's name on them, and ID will be checked against the ticket for admission to the venue.  If someone wants to sell their ticket, they can get a refund for face value.

Until then, there's not much I can do about dirtbag ticket scalpers.

IIRC Congress is crawling up Ticketmaster's ass, because Ticketmaster owns one of these "ticket brokers".  It'll be interesting to find out just how badly Ticketmaster is abusing their position...

They are simply going to transition to an auction system and bypass scalpers while still getting market value for tickets.

It won't be for all shows, but the good seats at big shows will be auctioned off by Ticketmaster/Venue/Artist. It is coming, and that is a fact.

Let the free market rule.

If people aren't smart enough to figure out how to buy tickets, that's their problem. I stopped buying tickets at the ticketmaster or venue in favor of getting them off the internet long ago.

Exactly.   No different than the assholes selling bags of ice for $40 in hurricane-hit areas.  Legal?  More than likely.  Moral and ethical?  Certainly not.

I also remember the constant gas price threads from  a few months back.  All these "capitalism is King" folks certainly were singing a different tune then.

should have bought them off the internet like everyone else. and yes its legal for folks to buy them up off the internet and resell them. just as long as they are not selling them at the venue. ebay is chock full of tickets that are being resold, and legal. just learn to start buying your tickets online from someone other than ticket master, you can still get them at face value.

Many bands know that they could sell the tickets for more, but are attempting to make the shows affordable for their average fans.

unfortunately, so many tickets end up on the secondary market that the bands and venues are deciding that there is no point in offer those cheap tickets. An auction system is in the works and cheap tickets to hot shows will be thing of the past.

If you are any sort of frequent concert goer, you WILL get shut out on Tickmaster at some point. I don't blame anyone else when it happens, but if you are interested in "big" shows it will happen to you more than you would like.
