I just got my first gas trimmer and it's a total motherfucker compared to my old $30 electric one.

Now I'm deaf in one ear and my hands are numb from the vibration. It's worse than my corded reciprocating saw.

Are they all like that? Or do I just need to man up? It's a Ryobi 30cc straight shaft.

You mean a weed whacker?

Man up Nancy.

Do they make a low vibration one? Feels like I'm going to get that miner's disease in my hands.

My Echo weed whacker doesn't vibrate much at all, for a weed whacker.....

It's really something you get used to. I got a new head for mine that uses two six inch pieces of .080 line and it seems more balanced.

4 stroke, FTW. Also, try some hearing protection. You DO have hearing protection don't you? Safety glasses are also a great idea. Knee pads are optional.

Same model I have had for 3 years. I love it! It will wack anything in it's way and it is very dependable. It starts right up in two pulls as well, the best wacker I have ever had hands down.

Man up

Eye pro, ear pro (I listen to my iPod), wear pants and a long sleeve shirt... Don't laugh, I've kicked stuff up and has hit me pretty hard. Boot aren;t a bad idea either. Get some gloves, they may take the vibration out a little.

I have the same weed eater..
Thats what us hillbillies call them.
Works ok for me...my great aunt used an electric one.
Nothing like rolling out 100 feet of cord.

I use a Stihl FS 110R and it's a beast. Low vibration, long as the sting is correct.

It's called ear plugs.  WTF?

Hell of a lot better than dragging 200ft of power cord all over the damn place, wrapping it around trees, lawn furniture, having it come unplugged....I guess if you only have about 2 minutes worth of trimming within 25 ft of a power outlet then electric is great. Other than that, they're toys.  Plus, I have a pool.  I'm not dragging a damn power cord all around/across my pool.

I've used a few weed eaters and never had a problem with the noise. I say man up or atleast don't call them a string trimmer.

I have that model string trimmer.  It works just like any other string trimmer I've owned.

You're holding a 2 stroke motor on the end of a metal shaft.  It's not gonna be "still".  So yeah, man up.

Should have bought an Echo.  It will make your Ryobi feel like a toy.

I got some Toro POS... but it works.

I would LOVE something that will eat through Sagebrush without killing me.
