[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Trunk Guns. Do you have one? (Page 1 of 2)

| I personally won't do the "trunk gun, truck gun whatever you call it". If it gets ripped off that's a gun in the hands of a criminal. I also have kids who have friends. I doubt that one of them would snoop around in my vehicle but it's just to risky for me. I carry my pistol on my person. If I'm going to go to a sporting event where they wand you or do a cursory check...then I'll leave it in the car. Usually I willl pass on going to places I can't carry in. |
| I do not. Simply for the fact I live in Las Vegas. Transporting a rifle from the range to the house is fine but a rifle stored in a vehicle with loaded mags is bad juju. Really depends on the LEO that pulls you over. I have a CCW and my handgun goes with me 24/7 I try to avoid places that I can not carry into. I don't ever plan on fighting my way to a rifle. If I find myself in a situation where I'm out gunned I high tail out of there and live to fight another day. |

Im single so I dont have to worry about other people being in my vehicle.
I work security in Orlando. The PD where I work has a shotgun and an M4 in their car, plus their sidearm so I figure if thats what they need I should be on the same level. I dunno, just curious. |

Ahh, if that is your job then that is a good idea. The cops around here have an AR in their car to. Sometimes a shotgun as well. |

What is the point of a trunk gun? If you can get a CCW, then get it. A pistol and 1-3 mags of ammo should be enough for self defense. Why do you think you'll need an AR-15 plus 241 rounds of ammo? Exactly. AR15s are more of a danger to people than anything else, and they should be banned since they serve no legitimate purpose in the hands of civilians. You make me want to vomit. |

Ive been working Security in the same area for almost 3 years now and know the PD Officers that work the same area/shift as me quite well and i've told a few of them about this, and stressed the fact that im the only guard now since they laid off the other two guys for budget cuts. Their reaction was "Good. I'd do the same thing if I were you."
Obviously I keep a close eye on my vehicle, my foot patrol takes me past it at least every 30 minutes and I keep it in range of the cctv cameras. FL has the new law that says I can keep firearms in my vehicle on company property so I have that even if against policy- which it was before this law went into effect. |
| Used to carry a old Smith 12ga pump in my truck. Picked up cheap at a gun show. Wasn't an 870, but it worked. Took it out of my truck to shoot, forgot to put it back. My truck was then broken into, and everything was stolen out of it. So I don't keep one in there anymore. |
|
I keep my 20" AR15 in my trunk. Ive got about $500 into it (pre- obama build), so if it gets stolen or something its not as expensive as my M4, and everything else I have is in 9mm.
It doesn't matter what you have in it, it only matters what it's worth, and it's worth more than 500. I think we're reaching the point where any firearms confiscated, even if the consfication is later legally reversed, are firearms that you will never see again. To me, it's simply too much of a risk. Of course, I'm factoring into that my belief that AWB2 is inevitable, which will render your ARs irreplaceable. |

I'd rather have someone just steal my car than steal my car and a rifle. Having had an IH Scout with some irreplaceable collectibles that I was going to be returning in a few days stolen I can definitely agree with the above. The only time I have anything that I might consider as a trunk gun is when I go camping, or out in the boonies. |

I used to keep a 16" barrel SKS and 200 rounds omn strippers in one of those Chinese bandoliers in my trunk. Last year I gave that gun and the ammo to a guy who was struggling. I only had $10 in the SKS through a series of trades so it was no big deal.
Now I don't keep anything back there. I am considering throwing a Mossberg 500MILSPEC in there, but haven't thought of a good way to handle extra ammo. |
| Stainless 1911 rides in the door pocket of my truck until I get to work then it goes in my desk drawer. However, today my truck gun is an M1903A3 30-06. So my truck gun depends on what long gun I was shooting last plus my 1911 in the door, oh and my glock on my hip. |

Yes:
-10/22 with folding stock for any time I feel like it plinking -either Norinco SKS or WASR AK for self defense. Although even the WASR is getting to be pretty valuable. I also have two spare mags and a box or two of ammo for my CCW. My truck is in sight 90% of the time and we don't have a lot of theft here. Unless you park near the University, thievin' bastards. |

But, the 20" and Uzi are nice. Because I'm old enough to remember this Link fixed, for some reason during copy/paste I had an extra http:// in there |

Just can't have a round chambered. |

But, yeah, it wasn't more than a month ago somebody was shot at on a freeway, pulled over and lit up the attacking vehicle with an SKS, killing one and wounding a couple of attackers. There have been plenty of situations in which people have had to engage bad guys wearing soft armor, using partial cover that might defeat pistol rounds, engaging them at a distance with a rifle, etc. |

I posted about this a few years back and was torn apart but here we go again. So you are in Orlando, one of Florida's largest cities. You have your handgun on you and an AR in the trunk. Explain to me what kind of situation you would come into where you would have to go to your trunk to get the AR. In the time it takes you to exit your vehicle, go to the trunk and deploy the Ar you could have driven away from the threat. You take all those actions and you can be made to look like the aggressor by the State Attorneys office. A handgun on your body with the carry permit and you are good to go. You go to the trunk and pull out an Uzi or and Ar and the court system will tear you up. |

My 870 comes in with me every night. |

For those that have trunk guns, what ya got? I keep my 20" AR15 in my trunk. I have a discreet duffle bag, that when the upper is taken off my AR fits in and I can easily put it in my trunk and reassemble it. I keep 7 30rd mags in the duffle bag, and a full 30rd'er in the gun itself. I've been keeping it without one in the pipe, so if I pull it out I have to pull the charging handle first. How do you guys keep your trunk gun? Like me with a full mag but empty chamber, or condition 1? I have a S&W M&P9c for my ccw, and I keep that in my office at work but this is always in my car. Just wondering. That Uzi is crying to be SBR'd. |

My 870 comes in with me every night. Live and learn, it will not happen again. Hope somebody learns from me. Most guns are not recovered. |

An abused Plainfield M1 Carbine with 3 15rd magazines. It functions, but is externally horrid thanks to being left in a garage for decades with no cleaning. I was able to get the rust off, but the receiver/barrel/trigger housing are all pitted to hell.
Nobody's going to steal my car. It's a '92 Mazda MX-3 in about as good condition externally as the carbine. -Mark |
