My house is infested with ticks! They are on my walls everywhere. It is near horror movie proportions. We noticed a bunch of black dots on our bedroom wall an it is all ticks! We let our dogs with a friend over Christmas break. We noticed a couple ticks on them and pulled them off, treated the dogs, and treated the yard. All seemed well. This morning it seems that the ticks moved in over night. Does anybody have any suggestions? I have an 11 month old son and we already found a tick on his back!
Update: The battle wages on. - Sprayed Ortho Max Home Defense inside on the baseboards and the top of the way, as well on the perimeter of the house. - Put a double dose of Bayer insect killer in the front and back yard. - Dipped both dogs and I treated them both with the "30 day flea and tick" meds. -Had the exterminator come out to spray inside and out. - Removed all the carpet from my house. - Had the exterminator come back and spray te bare concrete slab. - Had new carpet installed. ..... I have spent $1500 and my house is still infested with ticks. |

There's no way that many ticks could infest your house from one dog. |

Dang bro, never heard of a tick infestation indoors. Glad it wasn't me. Anyway, i'd do the following: ––get Frontline or some comparable product on your dog ––get an exterminator to fumigate the entire house. You'll need to wash all bedding and cushions/covers of couches, chairs and such. Box up and remove cooking/eating utensils and plates to another location. ––bug bombs work very well. Close up the house, shut the AC/Heat off, box up and remove your cooking and eating stuff and nuke the ticks from orbit...its the only way to be sure. Plan on being out of the house for a day, and when you get back open all the windows and air it out. You may need to repeat another time. It is a banner year for ticks...lots of rain and a mild winter/spring. |
| Are you sure they aren't spiders? Spiders are easier to get rid of. If they are ticks, then they someone in your family would already have a few tagging along for a ride. Check yourself and your family. If nobody has any ticks, I would be they are spiders from a recent hatch. |

If you have ticks running free range around your house you might want to keep a eye on the little ones for signs of lyme disease.
I just got diagnosed with it yesterday, three weeks of antibiotics for me. According to the CDC FL does have lyme disease. Just something to keep an eye out for. FYI when you read that a tick has to be attached to you for 24 hours for it to transmit lyme to you....... it is a bunch of bull crap. The longest I could have had a tick on me was about 5 hours. |
| My boss called me in the office one day to say he had a "special" job to send me on, and that it came with hazard pay. Turns out we had to go to some apartment complex that was little India/Pakistan, and drill holes a 3ft. off the ground, in the center of every stud. The apartments were INFESTED with bed bugs. We had to move all the furniture for the exterminator while he was there. It was like the bud bug olympics between the mattresses. Horrible job. |

I'd rather them be ticks then a bed bug infestation. That fuckers can be near impossible to get rid of When I read you thread I was thinking bed bugs. They look a lot like ticks and will leave blood spots. I work at a nursing home so I have seen them before. Best way to find out if you have bed bugs is go to your mattress and look all around the seam. They are usually there. If they are there. You have bed bugs. They are almost impossible to get ride of. I hope you don't have them. Pray you don't have them. Sorry. |

I hate to tell you this, but you're going to have this problem for a while. |

Are you sure they are ticks and not mites? I'm glad you mentioned this, kinda. It appears it is both. We have large, hard shelled ticks that are hard to smash and tiny red ones that you can squish easily. I just ripped up the carpet in the one room that seems the worst vacuumed with the shop vac and treated the base boards with Ortho. The two dogs are about to get deconed with some flea and tick shampoo and treated with flea and tick drops. I sprayed our bedroom, but didn't tear the carpet up yet. I treated the yard a month ago with Ortho Max for fire ants, but it is supposed to be good for fleas and ticks too. I guess I am going to go buy several more bags to treat the yard. The thought about burning the house down did cross my mind ;) |

Bedbugs look very much like a Tick. More than likely bedbugs. ETA Here is a Bedbug http://thewagglearena.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/bedbug.jpg Definitely ticks. We have found several engorged ones. |

Had a similar problem, we rescued a GSD mix and since she had just been spayed we could not wash her. We kept her in the entry which was tiled but after a few days we noticed what looked like black pepper on the tiles. It was ticks!
So began our two year battle against the little bastards, ticks will climb up so we would find them in the corner between the walls and ceiling, also they would climb up tables to hide under doilies and tablecloths. The final fix was to use the one shot type tick treatment on all of the dogs and cats and a careful vacuuming of the whole house twice a week, paying particular attention to the cracks between carpet and wall, as well as going around the house with a high powered flashlight and checking every closet and corner for ticks, used pointed tweezers and a can of warm water with a bit of dishwashing liquid to drown them. We have been tick free for 12 years now. |

They grow on the grey mom when she gets fat on blood. ....and like the poster above says, they have alot of babies. With just a couple of ticks I could see how you can have a full infestation in no time. People say that after we nuke each other into oblivion the only thing left will be cockroaches. What they fail to mention is that those roaches will get sucked dry by TICKS! Tough bastards to say the least. get the professionals involved. Especially with a kid involved.. ....also check your junk daily. They like to hang out in dark places. |

I am calling the exterminator tomorrow. Today I washed both dogs in flea and tick meds and sprayed the house. I also treated the yard with this stuff that is supposed to kill every living thing in 24 hours |

Food-grade (the pool stuff has been baked and doesn't work the same) diatomaceous earth kills them. EDIT: Diatomaceous earth is totally non-toxic, just wear a dust mask and don't inhale it (works like coal dust/asbestos in the lungs). It's often mixed with grain for storage to prevent infestation. EDIT: Diatomaceous earth kills mites, too. |

Tell me about it. I am in Port St Lucie, and the ticks this year are ridiculous. I gotta check the dogs after every walk now, and I don't even live in the boonies. I'm in PSL also and I don't even have a dog. BUT,,, a friend of mine does and she had brought her lab over a few times, found ticks all around my living room carpet

According to my doc, if you catch it early antibiotics does kill it off (bacterial infection) but if you let it go for a while it does irreparable damage to your joints and such. |

, got fleas in a appt once . Bombed the Fucker. Got a motel for a few days, forgot about the cat.
